But first here is my top 5 films of the year – Udaan. LSD. Ishqiya. Peepli Live. Do Dooni Chaar. That was easy. Tell me which one needs  any explanation.

And now here is the list of 20 things we discovered this year and 10 unanswered questions which confused us all. And this required long debate, discussion and dissection. Please do add yours in the comment box.

1. If looks could kill, the most romantic moment of the year had Naseeruddin Shah staring at an unknown passenger in a bus. And she did respond. Matter of just few seconds, but what a foreplay. Click here…from 00:12.

2. Striker – The underrated, underplayed and easily one of the best albums of the year.

3. LSD – Can be bollywoodised and still have the same psychedelic effect.

4. If your intials are A.K, chances are actors can be cast according to the characters. Rajat Barmecha. Omkar Das Manikpuri.

5. Habib Faisal is the new Jaideep Sahni. Or Sahni of Twenty10. YRF. Delhi. Do Dooni Chaar. Band Bajaa Baraat.

6. Delicious Exports of The Year – ( Phans Gaye Re ) Obama and Osama ( Tere Bin Laden ). We had both. Next is what ?

7. KLPD Imports of The Year – Ben Kingsley ( Teen Patti) and Barack Obama ( MNIK).

8. Bollywood learnt a new hindi word – Dabangg. Some still think its Da Bang.

9. Dibakar Banerjee can give other lyricists a run for their money. Try LSD again. Title track, tainu tv pe wekhya, I cant hold it and more.

10. KJo took  one step forward – We Are Family is an official remake of Stepmom. And few steps back –  Everything else was a waste.

11. Ashutosh Gowariker thinks watching KHJJS and fighting for the freedom struggle is the same. Well, at endurance level, it might be. On Twitter, when we asked him for refund, he replied – asking for a refund?? It is like asking for a refund from the revolutionaries who gave their lives for us!! I am saddened!!

12. Impossible – Thy name is Uday Chopra. Pyaar Impossible. Height of Impossibility – Daya Prochu. Anagram of Uday Chopra, his philosophical twitter twin who has lots of time and loads of gyaan. And is now in comic avatar.

13. The Year of  disasteR – Road, Movie. Rann. Raavan. Rakht Charitra 1 and 2. Rokk. Right Ya Wrong. Red Alert. The exception that proved the rule –  Robot.

14. SLB is still in his cocoon. Nagesh Kuknoor is still in denial. And Ramu is still RIP.

15. Abbas Tyrewala proved that all rumours about JTYJN were true. Yes, Aamir can.

16. Surnames can be misleading. Highly misleading. Try Lynch. Hisss.

17. Gloria Jeans ( Bandra) and Costa Coffee (the one below Karan Johar’s office) kills creativity. Otherwise how do you explain the sound of Vishal-Shekhar’s music this year ? Four films. No new sound. And you can spot them there at any time of the day.

18. The reason why nobody is casting all Bs together. Action Replay. Teen Patti. Raavan. KHJJS. Rann. Guzaarish. Half a dozen. Housefull of duds.

19. Kumar is the new Khan. If star status is all about opening day collections, then Salman Khan ( Dabangg), Aamir Khan ( 3 Idiots) and Tees Maar Khan are on Top 3 positions. Time to change the title of SRK’s next – Ra One Khan ?

20. Rajni can do anything but as Nana Patekar said…ek macchar aadmi ko…..Remember Robot.

5. Did Ranveer Singh’s dad produce Band Bajaa Baarat ? Though post-release he silenced all his critics.

8. Who are Luv Sinha’s fans ? Click here.

10. Who thought of the title – Dunno Y….Na Jaane Kyun ? Our favourite title of the year.

Comments
  1. mihir says:

You forgot to include the most important question of them all – how much did SRK pay the Shiv Sena to publicly have conniptions to promote My Lame is Khan?

  2. moifightclub says:

@mihir – The joke was Dharma had 3 films deal with SS-MNS – WUS, Kurbaan and MNIK.

  3. K4 says:

    Lol @ Gorilla fart. Bwahahaha.

Btw, I loved Guzaarish… would rate it as one of the best of the year. Raavan was too ahead of its time to be received well by the audience’s intellect. The most underrated film of 2010.

Rajni-Aish’s Robot clearly is the blockbuster of the decade!

    Also, Aamir Khan is overrated.

Loved Udaan. And Do Dooni Chaar too, though it is a far from being deserved to be called ‘excellence in cinema’.

  4. fatema says:

Hehehhe love the twenty comments more than the reccos! And there are so many more unanswered questions of 2010. Sample –

    1) When will Ashutosh Gowariker and Sanjay Leela Bhansali wake up to find they are no longer auteurs and maybe never were?

    2) Script is king proved again and again this year. How come Sajid Khan still thinks he is great?

    3) When will Bollywood stop making films to make a statement to its Juhu-Lokhandwala coterie?

    4) How much did KJo get paid to get his show real down and dirty this time round? (I disagree its any kind of ‘growing up’ on anyone’s part.)

    5) Will TMK be the last nail in his coffin? (Actually this is more of wishful/wistful thinking than a question.)

Will put up my list soon!

  5. fatema says:

    Typo –

Will TMK be the last nail in Akshay Kumar’s coffin?

  6. Ratnakar says:

Some more discoveries from my side.

    1) Ronit Roy- From ” Jaan Tere Naam”( remember First time dekha tujhe love ho gaya) to all those K- Serials to Udaan, it has been one big journey. He was brilliant in Udaan as the strict, domineering father. One of the best performances of 2010.

    “Who directed Kites ?”

It was not a movie per se, more a 2 hr, music video meant to show case Brand Hrithik. And yeah with inspirations ranging from Tony Scott’s Revenge to Rakesh Roshan’s Koyla to Sam Mendes The Road to Perdition( the entire climax was ripped from there).

Also discovered that a whole lot of the New Age Indie cinema, is as crappy as the mainstream flicks. Just dealing with a topical issue, does not a movie make.

    One question from my side

Agar ek machar Aadmi ko… then what does ek Fly do to Hrithik in Guzaarish?

  7. Ratnakar says:

One more discovery is Habib Faisal, loved the way he captured the typical Middle class Delhiite in Band Baja Baraat and Do Dooni Chaar. Both these movies, beautifully showcasing the average, Punjabi, middle class kind you are likely to find in West Patel Nagar or Janakpuri.

  8. Harshit says:

Number 17 was the best for me. I liked V-S music, but I was sad for the demise of creativity, especially since BKB that came as a copy of IHLS. If u had hopes from TMK though, ur mistake. 😛

Of the lot, the worst was probably the Ranveer Singh question. Looks like an MTV comment that cares for no facts. The guy seems to be doing good, and can manage to look humane at times, too. 😀

  9. Vijay Venkataramanan says:

Nice list. A few behind-the-camera discoveries for me:

Mahendra Shetty – Cinematographer, “Udaan” – Evocative visuals. Best DoP debut in a long time.
Charu Mohan & Nitish Pires – Composers, “Soch Lo” – One of the best OST of the year.
Abhishek Chaubhey – Director, “Ishqiya” – One of the most proficient directorial debuts in a while.

    • moifightclub says:

Think Mahendra Shetty had shot before Udaan too. IMDB has Superstar also. But no doubt easily one of the best DoPs of the year.

  10. Fatema says:

My aha-music moments and my fav people of 2010 in order of the longest aha –

    1) Rekha Bharadwaj – Ab mujhe koi.
    2) The whole team behind ‘Dil toh Bachcha hain ji’
    3) Sneha Khanvilkar in ‘I can’t hold it’. Still cant make up my mind if its her rendition, her music or the corny lyrics I aha over more!
    4) Everything else from LSD.
    5) Sajda from MNIK
    6) Robot – all! Looped for days on the playlist and then in the head!!!

    • moifightclub says:

Robot was fully dhinchak sound. loved it. also, Amit Trivedi’s hattrick was super too – 3 albums and so different sound.

  11. Ricky says:

Love all the comments. But am not sure about the objectivity of your criticism for Guzaarish. When watched in a theatre, with an open mind (closed phones, no distractions) – it is really a well-made movie on a very difficult subject. Anyways, there’s little I can do to explain the beauty of the movie, it has to be experienced. And until one experiences it, even a glass of $500 wine tastes like tap water in a dirty glass.

  12. saikumar says:

in my opinion Ramu is not rip .rc1 has mettle in it.

  13. jitaditya says:

    loved the 8th question…:D
as for Guzaarish…I tried hard to like it & experience it…no it din’t work…
But RC had some good moments despite serious flaws…

as for the last nail in someone’s coffin, people are planning SiK2 as well as Houseful 2…so it is hardly a possibility…in fact, there is no coffin, only fat paycheques

  14. Azad says:

Couple of questions from me 😉
Will Pan Singh Tomar ever release
Who are the directors of YRF Films

  15. […] Like last year, in this post we have tried to dissect what we learnt at the movies  this year – the good, the bad, the ugly, and the questions that baffled us through out the year. […]
