~ Three final projects will be funded with rupees one crore each~

~The completed projects will premier at the Venice Film Festival 2013~

NFDC Labs, the training and development division of NFDC (National Film Development Corporation), announces the launch of a very exciting partnership with Venice Biennale, Venice Film Festival and Gucci. This partnership has been formed with an objective to reach out to the filmmakers community across the globe, with NFDC Labs reaching out to the filmmakers in India.

While the entire initiative will be sponsored by Gucci and Venice Biennale, Gucci will fully cover lab costs and accommodations for the resident workshop(s) and include the possibility of travel scholarships for successful teams selected from outside of Europe.

The initiative is a unique incentive for micro budget films from across the world, which will support teams of directors and their producers to make their first or second feature length audio-visual work. A community of selected film makers from around the world will work alongside an invited team of international experts and tutors to the aesthetics of micro-budget filmmaking and the new integrated models of production, which engage with an audience from the outset.

Modalities: After a first 10-day workshop in Venice for 15 selected projects in January 2013, up to 3 teams will be invited to a second 15-day workshop between February and March and supported with 150.000€ in order to produce and screen the projects at the 2013 Venice International Film Festival.

Commenting on the launch of the partnership, Marten Rabarts, Head- Development and Training, said, “It’s a very exciting initiative that we at NFDC Labs have partnered for with Venice Film Festival, and Gucci. With this we will leverage our platform and network to reach out to filmmakers in India and give them a brilliant chance to get work with a international experts and get funding for their project, once selected. The Call for Applications is open from the 30th of August 2012 to the 22nd of October 2012 only to teams of directors making their first or second feature and producers with varying degrees of expertise who must have produced at least 3 short films distributed and/or presented at Festivals.

UPDATE –   Deadline Extended for NFDC Film Bazaar’s Work-in-Progress Lab & Viewing Room. The New Deadline is October 17, 2012.

On popular demand from directors applying to the Work-In-Progress Lab, NFDC Film Bazaar has extended the deadline to October 17, 2012. This deadline extension is applicable to the Viewing Room as well.

NFDC Film Bazaar 2012 invites entries for the Work-in-Progress Lab and the Viewing Room.

Date & Venue :  The 6th Film Bazaar will be held from November 21-24, 2012 at the Goa Marriott Resort (India) alongside the International Film Festival of India 2012.

Deadline : The submission deadline is October 10th 2012.

Work-in-Progress: At the Work in Progress (WIP) Lab, 5 selected projects in their rough cut stage are presented to a panel of international film experts. The intention is to help the filmmaker achieve an accomplished final cut through expert insights.

– Celebrated film critic & historian, Derek Malcolm; Head of Israel Film Fund, Katriel Schory & Chris Paton from Fortissimo Films were the mentors for 2011 WIP Lab.

– The films from the 2011 Lab have gone on to have World premieres at prestigious international film festivals: Ashim Ahluwalia’s Miss Lovely (World Premiere, Cannes Film Festival in official competition section-Un Certain Regard) Manjeet Singh’s Mumbai Cha Raja and Anand Gandhi’s Ship of Theseus (World Premiere, Toronto Film Festival 2012), Ajay Bahl’s BA Pass (World Premiere, 12th Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival).

CRITERIA : The lab is open only to feature length films and documentaries in the rough-cut.

Viewing Room : Previously known as Screening Room, it was successfully introduced in FB 2011 with the aim of presenting films seeking finishing funds, world sales, distribution partners & film festivals to investors, world sales agents and film festival programmers.

– The Films are viewed on individual computer terminals in private booths via a specially designed Viewing Room software, which allows the viewer to watch complete films, access details of the film as well as contact the director or producer.

CRITERIA : This section is open to films of all genres and lengths which are complete or in the rough cut stage. Films presented in this section last year have been selected by various film festivals.

ROME FILM FESTIVAL
(FESTIVAL INTERNAZIONALE DEL FILM DI ROMA)
Calls for Entries in all categories for 2012.

– Rome Film Festival now has a new artistic director, Marco Mueller (who used to head the Venice fest) and they are introducing some new categories and going for a makeover.  Scroll down for all the details.

DATES : The New redesigned 7th Rome Film Festival will take place from November 9 – 17, 2012 and will be a ‘World Premiere’ festival with a selection of around 60 world premieres. There will also be a focus on new trends in contemporary cinema in a New Competition section called Cinema XXI (21st-century cinema)

 – NEW SECTION : Cinema XXI (21st-century Cinema) focuses on works that “reflect the continuous reinvention of cinema on the contemporary visual scene,” and will host a competition showing feature films, medium-length features, and short films, for a maximum of fifteen films.

– The Official Selection is composed of an International Competition, a choice of films Out of Competition, and two additional competitive showcases: CinemaXXI (21st-century Cinema) and Perspectives Italy.

– The Rome Film festival will give out more than 12 awards for World Cinema.

 – The 7th Rome Film Festival is now open for Entries.

Eligibility Criteria: All film submissions must be recent productions completed not prior to November 30th, 2011, and they must not have been presented in any other format or length, not even as works-in-progress, for submission to previous editions of the Festival. Under no circumstances may films that have had prior public screenings be presented at the Rome Film Festival. Exceptions may be made only for films presented exclusively in their own country of origin. Works previously presented in competition or out of competition at other international festivals or shown on the Internet will not be considered for selection.

 – To submit a film to the selection, one has to fill out a pre-selection entry form on the official festival website.

– The preview DVDs should be sent to Deepti DCunha, who continues as the India Consultant to Artistic Director, Marco Mueller for the 7th Rome Film Festival.

– The DVDs should reach her before 1st September, 2012. Filmmakers with films in post-production are requested to contact Deepti at the address below.

Osian’s Film House announces the return, after a sabbatical of two years, of the Osian’s-Cinefan Festival of Indian, Asian and Arab Cinema.

DATE/LOCATION : The 12th OCFF will be held in New Delhi between the July 27 and August 5 2012 with the Siri Fort complex serving as its main venue as in the past few years.

The fest will showcase the best of Asian, Arab and Indian Cinema, all within an all-embracing framework which focuses on freedom of creative expression and thought. First Features and Short films will be given special platforms. The art of creating Animation films will be intensively discussed and the ingenuous works will be presented for both the young and old. The new ‘7.4’ section on Environment films will be a precursor of a summit on natural and man-made heritage, which by 2013 will translate into a new film festival dedicated to this subject.

– Osian’s-Cinefan will this year salute the memory of Mani Kaul. Mani had been Creative Director at Osian’s since 2006 and was the Director General of OCFF 11 held in 2009. To mark the legacy of one of the most remarkable filmmakers of World Cinema, Cinefan will institute the Annual Mani Kaul Memorial Lecture. OCFF 12 will also hold a number of events that will celebrate not only his cinema but also his formidable contributions to music, literature and painting.

– Further, as part of the Festival a new annual CINEFAN FILM MEMORABILIA AUCTION will be held focusing on the finest and rarest artifacts and publicity material from Hollywood and World Cinema, to be held on 31 July at The Osianama.

– Also as part of the festival related events a major three-day Summit on ‘Delhi: The Next Film City’ will be organized. This summit is being held given the rapid developing interest of filming in Delhi. It is the right time to review the reasons underlying this rise of Delhi as a possible film city in all facets and to discuss the way ahead so as to consolidate the gains made and expand the possibilities of cinema in the city.

The 5th Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala will be held in the capital city Kerala ,Thiruvananthapuram (formely known as Trivandrum) from the 8th to 12th June 2012. The festival, a unique venture in India is being organized by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy for the Dept of Cultural Affairs, Govt of Kerala as part of its endeavor to catalyse a vibrant documentary and short film movement.

PROGRAMME:

The festival will have :

A. National Competition Section under the following categories:

1) Long Documentary (over 40mts)

2) Short Documentary

3) Short Fiction (under 70mts)

4) Animation

5) Music Videos

B. Campus films competition for films produced by students from Educational Institutions above Higher Secondary level based in Kerala:

1) Short Fiction works 20min and less.

C. National and International non-competitive sections with the following categories.

1) Long Documentary Section (over 40mts)

3) Short Fiction section (under 70mts)

4) Public Interest spots

PRIZE MONEY :

A. There will be a National Level competition for long documentaries, short documentaries, Animation and short fiction films produced in India between May 1st 2011 and 30th April 2012. The following awards will be given:

a) Best Long Documentary (40mts and above) with a cash prize of Rs 1.00 lakh and a certificate.

b) Best Short Documentary (under 40mts) with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/ and a certificate

c) Best Short Fiction (under 70mts) with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/ and a certificate

d) Best Animation with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/ and a certificate.

e) Best Music Video with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/ and a certificate

– Navroze Contractor Award for the Best Documentary Cameraman: Rs. 10,000/

B. Campus films competition for films produced by students from Educational Institutions above Higher Secondary level based in Kerala:

– There will be a competition for short fiction films for bonafide students studying within Kerala .The films will have to be 20min or under in duration and produced between Jan 1st 2011 and 30th April 2012 . The director of the film has to be above 18years at the time of production. The jury will award the following prizes:

i) Best Campus Film (20min and below) with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/ and a  certificate to the creative team.

RULES & REGULATIONS (for competitive sections):

1) Eminent Juries will be appointed by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy .No person with any involvement in the films will be present on the Jury.

2) Only films produced in India or with one Indian Director are eligible for the National level competition. All films participating in the competition have to present either a certificate from the Board of Film Certification or a signed notarized affidavit on Rs 50/ Stamp paper by the person entering the film that the film has been completed between May 1st 2011 and 30th April 2012 (both days inclusive)

3) Campus Films have to be made by students who were registered students at the time of the production of the film, in an educational institute above Higher Secondary level located within Kerala. The films have to be short fiction of under 20min duration. The films have to be produced between Jan 1st 2011 and 30th April 2012 (both days inclusive) .The age of the Director has to be above 18yrs at the time of production. A certificate from the Educational Institution stating both the above is required.

4) Films must be available for festival screening on one of the following formats : DV, Beta SP/PAL, 35mm

5) A selection committee appointed by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy will select films for the screening in the competition and non competitive sections.

6) A director or production company may enter more than one film, provided a separate entry form accompanies each film.

7) No films as works in progress will be accepted. A film once entered cannot be re-entered in the competition.

7) Only selected films will be intimated by email. No letters of non- acceptance will be sent. All lists will be available on the website by 20th May 2012

8) Directors of films in competition will be invited to attend the festival with 2 Class AC Train fare and hospitality during the festival.

9) All non English-speaking projects must have English subtitles.

10) The Director of the festival has the power to include any film at his discretion.
