ROME FILM FESTIVAL

Calls for Entries in all categories for 2012.

– Rome Film Festival now has a new artistic director, Marco Mueller (who used to head the Venice fest) and they are introducing some new categories and going for a makeover.  Scroll down for all the details.

DATES : The New redesigned 7th Rome Film Festival will take place from November 9 – 17, 2012 and will be a ‘World Premiere’ festival with a selection of around 60 world premieres. There will also be a focus on new trends in contemporary cinema in a New Competition section called Cinema XXI (21st-century cinema)

 – NEW SECTION : Cinema XXI (21st-century Cinema) focuses on works that “reflect the continuous reinvention of cinema on the contemporary visual scene,” and will host a competition showing feature films, medium-length features, and short films, for a maximum of fifteen films.

– The Official Selection is composed of an International Competition, a choice of films Out of Competition, and two additional competitive showcases: CinemaXXI (21st-century Cinema) and Perspectives Italy.

– The Rome Film festival will give out more than 12 awards for World Cinema.

 – The 7th Rome Film Festival is now open for Entries.

Eligibility Criteria: All film submissions must be recent productions completed not prior to November 30th, 2011, and they must not have been presented in any other format or length, not even as works-in-progress, for submission to previous editions of the Festival. Under no circumstances may films that have had prior public screenings be presented at the Rome Film Festival. Exceptions may be made only for films presented exclusively in their own country of origin. Works previously presented in competition or out of competition at other international festivals or shown on the Internet will not be considered for selection.

 – To submit a film to the selection, one has to fill out a pre-selection entry form on the official festival website.

– The preview DVDs should be sent to Deepti DCunha, who continues as the India Consultant to Artistic Director, Marco Mueller for the 7th Rome Film Festival.

– The DVDs should reach her before 1st September, 2012. Filmmakers with films in post-production are requested to contact Deepti at the address below.

– The festival’s Director Marco Mueller will be visiting India in September for the final selection of films.

Osian’s Film House announces the return, after a sabbatical of two years, of the Osian’s-Cinefan Festival of Indian, Asian and Arab Cinema.

DATE/LOCATION : The 12th OCFF will be held in New Delhi between the July 27 and August 5 2012 with the Siri Fort complex serving as its main venue as in the past few years.

The fest will showcase the best of Asian, Arab and Indian Cinema, all within an all-embracing framework which focuses on freedom of creative expression and thought. First Features and Short films will be given special platforms. The art of creating Animation films will be intensively discussed and the ingenuous works will be presented for both the young and old. The new ‘7.4’ section on Environment films will be a precursor of a summit on natural and man-made heritage, which by 2013 will translate into a new film festival dedicated to this subject.

– Osian’s-Cinefan will this year salute the memory of Mani Kaul. Mani had been Creative Director at Osian’s since 2006 and was the Director General of OCFF 11 held in 2009. To mark the legacy of one of the most remarkable filmmakers of World Cinema, Cinefan will institute the Annual Mani Kaul Memorial Lecture. OCFF 12 will also hold a number of events that will celebrate not only his cinema but also his formidable contributions to music, literature and painting.

– Further, as part of the Festival a new annual CINEFAN FILM MEMORABILIA AUCTION will be held focusing on the finest and rarest artifacts and publicity material from Hollywood and World Cinema, to be held on 31 July at The Osianama.

– Also as part of the festival related events a major three-day Summit on ‘Delhi: The Next Film City’ will be organized. This summit is being held given the rapid developing interest of filming in Delhi. It is the right time to review the reasons underlying this rise of Delhi as a possible film city in all facets and to discuss the way ahead so as to consolidate the gains made and expand the possibilities of cinema in the city.

13. The Osian’s archives the biggest of its kind in the world will mount a multimedia exhibition about the freedom of expression in all registers of human life – the political, the artistic, the magical and the spiritual.

14. Festival Summit: Delhi As India’s Next Cinema City – A three day summit will be organized that will bring together the governments of India and Delhi NCR, various cultural agencies, corporate organizations and the film industry to discuss the way forward towards making Delhi the next Film City of India

15. Cinefan @Osianama-Blue Frog – Daily events through the duration of the festival including Master classes, Panel discussions, film screenings and high-profile Q&As with festival guests. The evening will see festival guests converge at the site to converse and network at the ‘Cinefan Adda’. Especially curated musical and performance events will commence from 10 pm every night at the Blue Frog.

Deepti DCunha is programming for the 12th Osian’s-Cinefan Film Festival, 2012. The festival is to be held in New Delhi, India from 27th July to 5th August.

The 5th Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala will be held in the capital city Kerala ,Thiruvananthapuram (formely known as Trivandrum) from the 8th to 12th June 2012. The festival, a unique venture in India is being organized by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy for the Dept of Cultural Affairs, Govt of Kerala as part of its endeavor to catalyse a vibrant documentary and short film movement.

PROGRAMME:

The festival will have :

A. National Competition Section under the following categories:

1) Long Documentary (over 40mts)

2) Short Documentary

3) Short Fiction (under 70mts)

4) Animation

5) Music Videos

B. Campus films competition for films produced by students from Educational Institutions above Higher Secondary level based in Kerala:

1) Short Fiction works 20min and less.

C. National and International non-competitive sections with the following categories.

1) Long Documentary Section (over 40mts)

2) Short Documentary Section

3) Short Fiction section (under 70mts)

4) Public Interest spots

5) Music Videos

7) Student Productions (Director must provide proof of being a bonafide student)

– There will also be specially curated sections focusing on issues, themes, countries and the works of filmmakers. The programme will also include Interaction/Workshop Sections with Media and Professionals from all over India.

DEADLINE: Last Date for receiving the Completed Entry form and preview material is30th April 2012.

PRIZE MONEY :

A. There will be a National Level competition for long documentaries, short documentaries, Animation and short fiction films produced in India between May 1st 2011 and 30th April 2012. The following awards will be given:

a) Best Long Documentary (40mts and above) with a cash prize of Rs 1.00 lakh and a certificate.

b) Best Short Documentary (under 40mts) with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/ and a certificate

c) Best Short Fiction (under 70mts) with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/ and a certificate

d) Best Animation with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/ and a certificate.

e) Best Music Video with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/ and a certificate

– Navroze Contractor Award for the Best Documentary Cameraman: Rs. 10,000/

B. Campus films competition for films produced by students from Educational Institutions above Higher Secondary level based in Kerala:

– There will be a competition for short fiction films for bonafide students studying within Kerala .The films will have to be 20min or under in duration and produced between Jan 1st 2011 and 30th April 2012 . The director of the film has to be above 18years at the time of production. The jury will award the following prizes:

i) Best Campus Film (20min and below) with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/ and a  certificate to the creative team.

RULES & REGULATIONS (for competitive sections):

1) Eminent Juries will be appointed by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy .No person with any involvement in the films will be present on the Jury.

2) Only films produced in India or with one Indian Director are eligible for the National level competition. All films participating in the competition have to present either a certificate from the Board of Film Certification or a signed notarized affidavit on Rs 50/ Stamp paper by the person entering the film that the film has been completed between May 1st 2011 and 30th April 2012 (both days inclusive)

3) Campus Films have to be made by students who were registered students at the time of the production of the film, in an educational institute above Higher Secondary level located within Kerala. The films have to be short fiction of under 20min duration. The films have to be produced between Jan 1st 2011 and 30th April 2012 (both days inclusive) .The age of the Director has to be above 18yrs at the time of production. A certificate from the Educational Institution stating both the above is required.

4) Films must be available for festival screening on one of the following formats : DV, Beta SP/PAL, 35mm

5) A selection committee appointed by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy will select films for the screening in the competition and non competitive sections.

6) A director or production company may enter more than one film, provided a separate entry form accompanies each film.

7) No films as works in progress will be accepted. A film once entered cannot be re-entered in the competition.

7) Only selected films will be intimated by email. No letters of non- acceptance will be sent. All lists will be available on the website by 20th May 2012

8) Directors of films in competition will be invited to attend the festival with 2 Class AC Train fare and hospitality during the festival.

9) All non English-speaking projects must have English subtitles.

10) The Director of the festival has the power to include any film at his discretion.

The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) announced its Call for Entries today. The 10th anniversary edition will be held April 10-15, 2012, at ArcLight Hollywood, located in the heart of Los Angeles.

DATES : The early deadline with reduced fees for all film submissions is November 11, 2011. The final deadline is January 6, 2012.

Early Bird Deadline: November 11, 2011
Films under 40 min: $30.  Films 40 min and over: $45

Final Deadline – January 6, 2012
Films under 40 min: $45.   Films 40 min and over: $60

FILMS/VIDEOS : IFFLA 2012 seeks narrative, documentary, music videos, experimental, children’s and animated films of any length and format. Jury and Audience Choice Prizes are awarded for Best Feature, Best Documentary and Best Short films.

SUBMISSION RULES

– Films from or about India, with or without an Indian theme, made by Indian and international filmmakers, produced in 2010 or later, and films that have not had a public screening in Los Angeles are eligible to be submitted.

– All submissions must be made through Withoutabox.com.

– Filmmakers may submit more than one entry. Each entry must be submitted separately and with an entry fee. Please note that submission fees are not refundable.

– DVDs (preferably in NTSC format) and online, streaming files will be accepted for submission screening.

– DVDs must be labeled with the title, running time, format (PAL or NTSC), and contact information on the DVD label.

– Submission DVDs will not be returned unless the filmmaker agrees to cover the mailing expenses.

– Submission of a screener via a digital file may be made through Withoutabox.com. When using an alternate site (i.e., Vimeo, Dropbox, etc) the web link and password needed to view the film must be clearly indicated on the entry form.

– The entry fee is non-refundable. We only accept checks, US money orders or credit card payments through pay pal or withoutabox.

– Please make check or money order payable to Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, in US dollars ONLY.

– If your film is selected, you will be required to provide 10 DVD (NTSC) screeners, a press kit with press reviews, synopsis, full credits, film stills, trailer (or film clips), posters, and a director’s bio with a headshot.

– All filmmakers will be notified via email by March 1, 2012.

The 2011 Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles launched with the Opening Night Gala presentation of Nila Madhab Panda’s I AM KALAM starring Gulshan Grover and concluded with the IFFLA Closing Night Gala world premiere presentation of Disney’s ZOKKOMON starring Anupam Kher.
