There was Ashutosh Gowariker’s dud Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, and now there’s Chhitagong by Bedabrata Pain. Both the films are based on the same incident. Written by Bedabrata Pain & Shonali Bose, it  stars Manoj Bajpayee, Raj Kumar Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Barry John and Dibyendu Bhattacharya.

Here’s the first look. It doesn’t look like official trailer though. Too long to be a trailer, must be showreel for distributors or something like that.

And here’s the official synopsis…

Set against the backdrop of a little known saga in 1930s British-occupied India – where a group of schoolboys and young women, led by a schoolteacher, Masterda Surya Sen (Manoj Bajpai) dared to take on the Empire – CHITTAGONG is the story of a diffident 14 year old boy, Jhunku (Delzad Hiwale). Swept up into this seemingly impossible mission, the reluctant teenager battles with his own self-doubts to achieve an improbable triumph.

The film is a riveting action-drama, made more so by the fact that it is true.

  3. bruna_a says:

This looks like a great Effing Film!

  4. Shaandaar! Hope it gets a good release soon. Totally power-packed stuff. Manoj, Nawaz, Rajkumar Yadav…aur itne saarey naye log in a period war drama…sab revolutionary hi lag raha hai Hindi cinema ke context mein bhi.

Official trailer ka bhi pata lagwaao…this one may not hold the interest of a regular audience.

    – Varun

  5. Bedabrata ka “pain” dikh rha hai trailer me! seems strong on story-telling unlike KHJJS.. nd now i think KHJJS se compare bhi nhi krna chhiye ise! let it take away its own way!

  6. hardik mehta says:

gr8 choice of actors! and the boy looks so awesome! the same boy who comes in that mobile ad ‘ ishaaro isharro…’ –
also why does every editor worth his/her salt use Gustavo Santaolalla’s soundtracks as reference – esp when its time to show/impress the distributors/producers….?? – maana gustavo-da is a genius lekin ab thoda aage toh research karo…

  7. Chhatrapal says:

Ossum Trailer. Looks like well made film. But from history point of view it doesn’t appeal me … sorry … It is estimated that more than 25 crore people prefered starving to death in more 31 famines during British Raj i.e after 1857 and the maximum British officers during that entire time were probably 25,000 … and still why we glorify revolutionaries. Why cant any great revolutionary of India able to convince and unite 0.01% of those died starving. Chittagong revolution started in 1932 and wiped in two years … when Mao took 10 years just build the base and fought for more than 20 years of war of attrition … For that matter Shivaji fought guerrilla war for against Mughal most of his life. (And sadly his predecessors Just gave India to British for free) One of my freind says” WTF man … why you are comparing … probably this is the best we got and i am fully justified to revere them”. India’s first Adivasi rebellion lasted 5 years against British canon and Maratha calvery combined and those Adivasi knew nothing but farming. And it was in 1774.

Conel Patton Says” Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.”. For me film on our revolutionaries as nothing but escapism from reality that the Gandhi was more organized(like Mao he invested in creating base), visionary and farsighted (may be … 30 years of satyagraha) and smart than any and we had really amateur revolutionaries … No matter how good the film is … it escapism for me. I will prefer “Battle of Algiers”

  8. jahanbakshi says:

No one spotted Anubrata, the lead actor of Gandu?🙂

  9. Santanu Dey says:

I must watch this movie…had seen parts of it earlier without the finished sound effects .. This is just great.

  10. Zalak says:

It looks like it is more than just a freedom struggle for a geographical region, but freedom struggle for ones own ideologies, the young boy is seems to be fighting at many levels, and characters look so real, looking forward for this one, and m sure its way better than khele hum jee jaan se!

  11. Zalak says:

And I am already in love with the cast, Delzad Hiwale looks amazingly talented! Looking forward for this one
