This marks a grand WTF in film promotion! Dear whoever you are, social media doesnt mean squeeze media!

The makers of the film were doing a countdown on Twitter to reveal the first look of Aisha, as if its gonna be Casablanca and not Aisha. Yes, trust us….from one week to 3 days to 2 days to 24 hours to 12 hrs to  2 hours and blah blah blah! And if you dont trust us, click here to check the stupidest timeline ever created in the history of bollylalaland! And what do they reveal after all this hype, a random still of Sonam Kapoor.

Whats more, they have even created a term called “Aishaholics”, even before the film’s first look, poster or promo! Make us alcoholic anyday…hic! And if you are done with your Dumb Quotient of The Day (DQTD – yes, thats gonna be a new category now), here is something more. The official synopsis of the film is out too. Read on.

Aisha is a girl with a simple diktat – everyone’s business is her business. Arjun is a boy with even a simpler set of beliefs – Aisha should mind her own business. Caught in the Delhi upper class world with its own set of social rules, Aisha navigates her world with a great sense of style and even greater optimism. Caught in her web are her best friend Pinky, the small town girl Shefali, the west Delhi boy Randhir and the hunk Dhruv. Aisha will make sure everyone dances to her tune. And all Arjun wants to do is disentangle that web and get Aisha out of an impending sticky mess. Who will succeed and who will succumb? Welcome to Aisha’s fabulous world where playing cupid is as easy as 123…if only that Arjun would stay out of her way!

The film is directed by Rajshree Ojha, written by Devika Bhagat and stars Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Ira Dubey, Amrita Puri, Cyrus Sahukar (Hmmmm…..shhhh!!???), Lisa Haydon and Arunoday Singh. Its produced by daddy dearest Anil Kapoor & PVR.

After a superb debut with Manorama Six Feet Under (though inspired/copied..whatever suits your sanity), Navdeep Singh is all set to roll his new film titled Basra. Earlier Akshaye Khanna and R Madhavan were supposed to star in it and Nikhil Advani was producing it. But now the film has a new cast and  a new producer too.

Abhay Deol is not only starring in it but is also producing the film under his banner Forbidden Films. Chitrangada Singh, Shahana Goswami, Nikhil Dwivedi and Soniya Mehra (Vinod Mehra’s daughter. Debut with Anant Mahadevan’s Victoria No 203) are also part of it. TOI has confirmed the cast and got the plot details of the film. You can click here or scroll down.

It is an out-and-out action film based on the drug racket and human trafficking. Basra is an edgy and dark film. Soniya will play a teenage hippie who is involved in drugs and eventually becomes a victim of human trafficking after being kidnapped. Shahana plays a journalist, while Nikhil is a cop. It is an ensemble cast and script.

The film is an action thriller. Abhay’s role is that of a secret agent. You can call him an undercover cop who exposes the entire racket. The movie has its base in Basra, a city in Iraq, notorious for its involvement in drugs. It will be shot in Dubai, Kuwait, Delhi and Mumbai.

The title Basra was chosen as it is a city in Iraq which is apt to the subject of the film. Probably the film will also be shot in one of the cities in Iraq. The movie will go on the floors in January and most probably release by the end of next year.

With that school boy looks and kiddie way of dialogue delivery, its bit difficult to imagine Abhay Deol as a secret agent in an action thriller. Or is he also going for those six-eight-dozen packs ? The rugged look with the moustache and disheveled hair did the trick in Manorama Six Feet Under. Hopefully we will be proved wrong. We trust Singhsaab!

Zoya AkhtarIts confirmed! And it cant get better!

Her debut film Luck By Chance made more headlines for casting than for anything else. After almost every actor turned down the role, she had no option but to settle for her brother Farhan Akhtar. But what a debut it was! One of the best in recent times! And finally someone put some creative thought and effort in designing the opening credits of the film. We fell in love as soon as the film started.

But it seems its the same story for her new untitled film. Ranbir Kapoor & Imran Khan intially agreed but later on backed out of it. And now Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol have agreed to star in her film. Ofcourse, Farhan Akhtar will also be part of it. We are waiting and how!

Road, MovieFinally, here comes Desi Cinema Paradiso. No, make that Cinema Para-desi!

The first trailer of Dev Benegal’s Road, Movie is out. The film stars Abhay Deol, Tannistha Chatterjee and Satish Kaushik. The screenplay was selected for the L’Atelier section at the Cannes Film Festival 2006. Its having its world premiere at the ongoing Toronto Film Festival. Deol plays a truck driver who makes a life changing journey across India as he hits the road with  a travelling cinema.

And here is the 2min trailer..

And the synopsis of the film..

A young man’s journey into the unknown becomes the odyssey of a lifetime.

Vishnu, a restless young man, comes up with a plan to save his father’s faltering hair-oil business. It’s madness: an excursion into the unknown, driving an old, decrepit lorry across a harsh but stunning terrain.

His personal journey becomes an odyssey across the mythical Indian landscape as he discovers he’s transporting not just a battered vehicle, but an old touring cinema.

The expedition takes on carnivalesque proportions of endurance as Vishnu confronts a young runaway, a wandering, old entertainer with a bear, a beautiful gypsy woman, corrupt cops and a notorious water-lord.

The key to his freedom is the eccentric collection of films and the two 40-year-old film projectors that lie inside the bowels of the lorry. Like “1001 Nights” if the films are good he gets to live and move on, otherwise he faces death in the isolated countryside.

The road trip is to change the life of each of the travellers, especially that of Vishnu, who discovers life, love and laughter along the Indian highway.

After the success of Dev D, Abhay Deol has finally moved on to his new film Aisha, co-starring Sonam Kapoor. Its directed by Rajshri Ojha and produced by Anil Kapoor. The film is based on Jane Austen’s novel Emma and the first shooting schedule is going on in Delhi.

Sonam plays the lead role Aisha Kapoor in the film, a typical south Delhi girl with a Modern School background and belonging to a rich family. And if the gossipmongers are to be believed, the only reason why Abhay Deol signed this film is because of the whopping Rs 2.5 crore fees that he was offereed!

imran khanLot of rumours and speculations have been doing the rounds regarding Imran Khan’s new films. And if the industry buzz is to believed, he is the next big thing! With Kidnap, Luck ( to be released soon) and 7 Days in Paris in the making, we will not be surprised if he goes back to Mamujaan to get his ass saved.

In an interview to Sunday Mid Day, Imran has clarified the status of his upcoming films. We can’t find the online link but have put it all here. Put an end to all those rumours and read on.

Zoya Akhtar’s film – It’s not true that I have signed on Zoya Akhtar’s film. Zoya has called me but I have not read or heard the narration. I am not saying whether it’s with Ranbir Kapoor or Farhan Akhtar yet.

Dibakar Banerjee’s film – He has told me a story but hasn’t written a screenplay yet. The cast he wants is with Abhay Deol and Katrina Kaif. It has no gay angle, Abhay isn’t playing a gay guy.

Puneet Malhotra’s film – Its a fuzzy, popcorn, date movie romcom that will start middle of october. With Sonam Kapoor, I have a feeling we will be good together. Its produced by Karan Johar and is titled I hate love stories.

Delhi Belly – Easily the most exciting film I have worked on. It also involved great deal of suffering with that damned beard and long hair. I dont know if the movie will make money or people will watch it. There is a fair chance that there will be protests and theatres will be burned (???). But it’s going to be awesome. I saw the first cut, its really a cool film.

Hmm. What he is saying about Delhi Belly, if its true, we are damn excited. Bring on the controversies. Let the theatres burn! Because other films are dull and boring. Click here and here to read our posts on his other films Luck & 7 Days in Paris.

dibakarDibakar Banerjee is gearing up for not one but two films. A quickie and a biggie!

The quickie starts next month. Its in digital, about the digital world and will have new faces.  Love, lust, betrayal, sex, all packed in shoe string budget. The film is produced by Ekta Kapoor. Dibakar & Ekta! Whats the common ground!

The biggie is a political thriller and goes on floors by the year end. Dibakar’s current favourite Abhay Deol will be in it for sure. Its a satire about politics at the basic level. We know that Dibakar has also signed Imran Khan to star with Abhay Deol. But we are not sure if its the same film or not. Will keep posted as we get more details.

rajeev khandelwal It was a close call. Sanjay Leela Bhansali was desperate to finalise the lead actor for abhay deolhis next production Chenab Gandhi, to be directed by his assistant Vibhu Puri. First it was Hurman Baweja, then John Abraham and it seems finally Rajeev Khandelwal is in! Though Abhay Deol is still hopeful!

We are ROFL! Wonder why ? Look at the irony of the situation. Rajeev Khandelwal or Abhay Deol – both actors got their big success because of Anurag Kashyap Production (Aamir and Dev D).

And what do you do after you have acted in Anurag kashyap film ? Move to Bhansali school of filmmaking. Whats more interesting, Khandelwal made his mark in the debut film of Raj Kumar Gupta, who was Anurag Kashyap’s assistant. And now its Vibhu Puri, Bhansali’s assitant!

For those of you who dont know the love equation between Anurag Kashyap and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, click here to read the article which started it all. Kashyap’s take on Bhansali’s Black. We love it, but we would like to know what Bhansali thinks of Kashyap’s No Smoking!

And here is our big question – Bhansali, who doesnt watches anyone kind of cinema, to stop himself from getting influnced, finally saw Anurag Kashyap’s films ?

The movie is expected to go on floors in August. Chenab Gandhi is inspired by the story of Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, India’s freedom fighter who was known as Frontier Gandhi. The movie also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan.

Dibakar Banerjee is going big after Khosla Ka Ghosla and Oye Lucky Lucky Oye.  Two films which we absolutely love. Well, the buzz is that Dibakar got great casting this time. Abhay Deol and Imran Khan. Yes, the new age heroes prefer those directors who have a new story to say and not the Kunal Kohlis of the world. ( Btw, Kunal Kohli has been rejected by every possible actor, whoever he approached for his new film) Talks are on with Katrina Kaif for the female lead.

Dibakar was earlier planning a film based in pre-independence Bengal. Looks like thats not happening soon.

Update on Gadhvi’s next –  Doom director Sanjay Gadhvi has finally managed to convince Imran Khan for his next film.  Here is the real dope – Post Kidnap, Imran wasnt interested in working with Gadhvi anymore. But this doom Gadhvi knows where to pull the strings.  He is quite close to Studio 18 boss Vandana Malik, whose daughter Avantika Malik is Imran’s girlfreind. Now thats not difficult puzzle to solve.  Saansu-Ma ho to aisi ho!
