(stills from Satyanweshi)

In a completely shocking news, filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh died of heart attack today morning. He was working on his latest film Satyanweshi – a Byomkesh Bakshi story starring filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh.

Easily one of the best filmmakers in the country, nobody explored the intimate space between two people like Ghosh did. All those film fanatics who are mad about world cinema, i hope they do get time to watch Ghosh’s films. His entire filmography is worth watching. Embedding the video of one of my favourite film – Titli – a terrific coming of age film. And easily the best desi film in that genre. It stars Mithun Chakraborty, Aparna Sen, Konkona SenSharma, and is with English subs. Do watch.

RIP Mister Ghosh.

This friday, its the attack of the Pindharis! Anil Gadar Sharma returns with Veer starring Salman Khan, Zarine Khan, Mithun Chakraborty, Sohail Khan and Jackie Shroff. The story is by Salman Khan. Beat this!

Here are some early reviews which suggests that Veer belongs to that rare dud tribe who die on their birthday! Born to die friday Species.

Anupama Chopra (NDTV) – The best thing about Veer is that it is comic book cinema no pretensions. Without a trace of embarrassment or apology, Sharma goes full throttle on speeches to the motherland, honour, mardangi. And as Manmohan Desai told us decades ago: Mard ko dard nahin hota, so Veer snarls and slices through men without pausing for breath – 2.5/5

Raja Sen (Rediff) – The son of a legendary hero grows up and attempts to follow in his father’s footsteps, however bloodthirsty this road may be. It is standard Bollywood cliche, but Salim Khan, one of our most iconic screenwriters, deserves a better tribute than son Salman, credited for the film’s story, churning out this unbelievably hackneyed period disaster – 1/5

Gaurav Malani (ET) – Salman Khan gives a powerful performance in real sense. He is so prominent in the film that not even his brother Sohail Khan gets one consolation scene. Mithun Chakravarthy is the only one who stands on his own other than Salman Khan. Zarine Khan is a replica of Katrina Kaif and using the same dubbing artist adds to the analogy. Lisa Lazarus is absolutely wasted in a 2 scene role. Jackie Shroff is repetitive in his villainous act. You have to be a braveheart to watch Veer – 2/5

Shubhra Gupta (India Express) – Salman is the last Khan standing. It makes not a whit of difference to him and his directors that the space for retrofitted 70s packages has shrunk to nothing : Salman, In and As Veer, defiantly dances, romances, and bests his enemies in combat— hand-to-bare hand, and because `Veer’ is allegedly a period film, sword-to-clanging sword – 2/5

Taran Adarsh (Indiafm) – VEER drives home a few hard facts…No amount of gloss can substitute for an engaging story. Not all directors are capable of pulling off a period film. No star – howsoever strong his rankings are – can infuse life in a comatose script – 1/5

Khalid Mohamed (PFC) – A battle’s on, followed by much prattle. How they rattle on about the British Raj and a desert-principality presided over by a king, mostly garbed in outfits which are crow-black. Quite tack. In effect, then, Veer is a waste or resources, talent and of course, our time..and ticket money – 2/5

Rajeev Masand (CNN IBN) – Even if you’re willing to forgive all the historical inaccuracies and the complete disregard for detail, Veer starring Salman Khan, is still an impossible film to appreciate.Unacceptable in these times. From Cameron’s Pandora to Anil Sharma’s Pindhari, we’ve come a long way baby – 2/5

Nikhat Kazmi (TOI) – Now no one’s doubting the fact that Salman Khan’s a thoroughbred veer. For, it does take a whole lot of bravado to pick up a blast from the buried past and present it an age when everyone is determined to tell a brand new story in Bollywood. Of course, films like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar did manage to strike a chord with the newbie viewers too, but they were more like exceptions to the rule. By and large, the scheming Brits and their grab-India story has been confined to the creative bin when it comes to modern Indian cinema, song and literature – 2.5/5

Mayank Shekhar (HT) – It belongs more to Bollywood of back in the day: a song designated for smokers every few minutes; crispness, hardly a narrative virtue; three hours, the accepted clock-time. And yet in trying so hard to win acclaim and scale, the film goes all over the place – *Gladiator, Troy, Braveheart* – complicating matters for its easy viewers – 1.5/5

Minty Tejpal ( Mumbai Mirror) – Veer is a very, very terrible film, which has lots of thudding hoofs, bloodstained swords, chopped-off heads plus brawny men hooting and fighting. What Veer doesn’t have is any kind of a script or a director, forget about any other related sense or sensibility. The film is a brutal assault on all your senses, with lousy direction constantly competing with mediocre acting struggling with a garbled period story, and one has to indeed be very ‘veer’ not to cry and run away in sheer fright – 1/5

Seems like Veer is already headed for Veer-gati!

Hrithik RoshanFirst it was Hrithik Roshan. Then Abhishek Bachchan. And finally its back to Hrithik Roshan.

According to Mumbai Mirror, its confirmed now. Hrithik Roshan will play the lead in the remake of Agneepath, to be produced by Karan Johar and debutant Karan Malhotra will direct it.

After Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, Hrithik was supposed to work with Vishal Bhardwaj. But now he wants to complete the remake first and then move on to Bhardwaj’s film.  So Vishal have to wait.

Agneepath was produced by Yash Johar and directed by Mukul Anand. Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty and Danny Dengzongpa were the lead actors. Mithun also bagged a national award for this film.

And like us, those of you who are missing the great lines of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, here it is.

Agneepath

LuckIts DOOMED.

The weather was cloudy. But still no signs of rain. We went to Juhu beach to have some chana zor garam. Ripley’s Believe It or Not ! As we unwrapped the pack, we discovered that its the first page from Luck’s script. Imran Khan’s new film directed by Soham Shah. It also stars Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty, Danny Denzongpa and Ravi Kishan.

We ran back to the chana-wala and asked him for some more chana. And as chewed more chana, the complete script came out, page by page.

We first wrote about it here and now we got the proof.

The script seems to be one of the earlier drafts. But in terms of story/plot/synopsis, there is lot of similarity (read plagiarism) between Luck and the two films 13 Tzameti and Intacto. Yes, Soham can take credit for killing 13 Tzameti.  The screenplay is credited to Rensil D’ Silva and felt like reading five episodes of reality tv show Khatroon Ke Khiladi back to back. And a boring one.

If  the hero and heroine are participants in a game where you can survive only by winning, you don’t need brains to figure out who will win the game in the end. Its hindi phillum.

Last time when we wrote about the script of Guzaarish and put up this post ( read here & here) , it made headlines and lot of readers questioned us. So this time, here is a scene of Luck from the script. Need we say more! We don’t lie.

The scene summarises the film. We are guessing Ram is Imran Khan and Khan is Sanjay Dutt.

Ram

You know about…

Khan

I told you. Khan knows everything. (He takes some notes and shoves them into Ram’s hand.)Luck is a crazy thing Ram. Not many people have it. It’s more valuable than all that money you’re holding in your hands. Because, luck is what makes money for people. For you. For me.

Ram

Who are you?

Khan

You could say I’m an invester.

Ram

Invester… like in the stock market?

Khan

No.

Ram

Property…real estate?

Khan

Not really. You see I invest in something far better (leaning close to Ram now). I invest in luck. People’s luck.

Dear Imran,

After all those big talks, you signed this film ( read this shit)!  Aapka to bad Luck hi kharab hai unless it turns out to be one more surprise hit like Race or Ghajini. You can never figure out the audiences IQ. So hope for the best that the dumbs turn out in hordes.

As we read the script while chewing chana garam which seemed more interesting than the script, we could hear only one dialogue. Remember Kidnap. Imran & Sanjay Dutt.

Sanjay Dutt – Go to hell.

Imran Khan – Hell is right here Raina!

(This one is no different. And yey like Minisha Lamba in bikini, this one got Shruti Hassan in swimming pool.)

We surely arent buying the tickets. Give us 13 Tzameti anyday anywhere!

fightclub

The theatrical trailer of Imran Khan’s new film Luck is out. The film is directed by Soham Shah. It also stars Sanjay Dutt, Shruti Hassan ( debut film), Mithun Chakraborty, Danny Denzongpa and Ravi Kissen. Take a look.

And what we think about Luck, click here to know. Why we are shouting “plagiarism” again! We got all the details of the films from which Luck is copied

BTW, we are suffering from mixed emotions these days. Happy and sad. Why ? Because a popular movie blog is not only copy-pasting our content but even copying our style!

13 Tzameti

               +                 Intacto

=    Luck

Thats what the buzz is! And trust us, its all true. If you dissect Luck scene by scene, its called plagiarism! Only difference is its bollywoodised (or say bastardised ) version of the two. In Sanjay Gupta style, Luck will be all dhoom dhaam zhoop zhaap! Its directed by Soham Shah ( Kaal ) and stars Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, Shruti Hasan (debut film), Mithun Chakraborty and Danny Denzongpa.

Some sequences are straight lift from 13 Tzameti and Intacto. Remember the famous spine chilling bulb sequence of 13 Tzameti. The concept has been completely plagiarised, without the bulb.

13 Tzameti is an absolute favourite of ours and its was directed by Gela Babluani when he was only 26 years old! If you havent seen the film yet, you need to watch it now! Don’t miss it. BTW, here is the scene that we are talking about.

Amitabh Bachchan

mithun chakraborty

After a gap of almost 19 years, Amitabh Bachchan and Mithun Chakraborty will work together again if everything goes all well.   The film is Vivek Sharma’s Buddham Sharanam Gacchami. The duo were last seen in Agneepath.

The film will be produced by Vivek’s film production banner Film Zone. Its a well known fact in the industry that the two veteran actors are not on the best of terms. During his heydays, Bachchan smartly calculated all his moves and played  dirty with many, pretending as if he knows nothing.  Shatrughan Singh, Rajesh Khanna, Mithun Chakraborty, Dharmendra – they all had many bitter experiences with Big B, anyone can give shitload of dope.

Mithun, though bitter about Bachchan, doesnt speak out publicly against him. Its always “No comments” when its about Bachchan. Same with others, except Shatrughan Sinha who doesnt shy away from firing his shotgun. With Bachchan, its the standard reply to every controversial question. Conclusion is simple to draw, he is holier than thou and the world around him is bitter. Or its all just imgaination of an idle mind. Huh! But if the two veteran actors come together, it will be interesting to watch for sure!
