neilFor those of you who are interested to know more about Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail, we have got the synopsis of the film. The film stars Neil Nitin Mukesh. Though we dont care much, neither for the director nor for the actor. We are sure about one thing. Its gonna be one more Bhandarkarism expose!

Here goes Jail’s plot/story/synopsis :

The Protagonist Parag Dixit was the King of his own World…

A great job, a lovely house, a lovelier girlfriend Maansi. A night out with friends at some suburban watering hole after a hard day’s job, life just couldn’t get better for him.

Speed… that’s what Parag’s life was all about and a certain impatience that came with it, to get on with the next step of life when a sudden veer thrown up by Fate destroys Parag’s utopia. A rude shock from which he recovers only to find himself in a lockup; handcuffs slapped on his wrists, answering Cops, infrequently getting slapped or rammed in the stomach. All he can remember is his Mother’s worried face and his Girlfriend’s trying to be brave but failing. Everything else was a blur, confused visuals, sounds emotions, events.

Parag Dixit was now in Jail.

A place far removed from reality. A system that functions on its own rules, not so easy to comply. For some it is a life worse than hell. Everything here is taken for granted, including one’s crime, Parag was now surrounded by the dregs of society. He is now a numbed soul… zombied, blank, unmoved… the new entrant to Barrack number 2 and its mini world within… a clear misfit and sitting target for anyone who had anything against clean cut, good looking, upper middle class boys… it’s a nightmare that’s only just begun … compounded by dirty, crowded spaces, inedible food, hostile cellmates, angry Policemen and weird rules of the place….no one believed Parag would survive this, for even a day except for Nawaab, the Resident Supervising Convict (Warder) who believed in two things – one that Parag was innocent and another that his inner integrity would see him through.

From the comfort of his numbness, Parag slowly steps out to actually see and understand the world around him…the world of arrests, court cases, pending cases, years of waiting, broken hearts, shattered souls. Some sad people in search of hope and those who had found their happiness within the four walls too… slowly Parag lets himself feel the helplessness and the anger… rebelling, questioning, hurting himself to gradually learn to accept his Fate and begin to find a steely resolve within.

Why should he accept the helplessness that the system forces upon you when there were those for whom Jail was just an inconvenience, their powers not diminished by a degree and whose hawk eyes were constantly scanning for souls that could be broken in…? Souls like Parag, who were willing to accept any answer that seemed to quieten his questioning mind.

What begins now is a race to the finish between the powerful forces of the place that can offer Parag his freedom and Nawaab’s friendship that can only offer Faith and Hope.

In the end what would you choose…Freedom or Hope?

Exploring life’s tough choices through Parag Dixit’s journey, Jail is a complex fabric of human emotions that is eventually a metaphor for life itself.

Sounds like Shawshank Redemption ? WTF!! Bhandarkar and Redemption ??!! We would love to commit suicide before it happens.

mumbai mirror guzarish cut

Today’s edition of Mumbai Mirror has a quote from our post “Check your CQ – Bhansali’s Guzaarish“. Actually the full article is on our post.

You can read the full post here. Its on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s new film Guzaarish. The film stars Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai and newcomer Aditya Bal. And the Mumbai Mirror article is here (see pic).

Here is the most interesting part. To quote from the article…

However, a source close to Bhansali said, “Why are people in so much of a hurry? These things can really upset a director. Guzaarish has got nothing to do with any of these three films and Sanjay is very upset with the constant spotlight on the film. It is just a silly prank as no one has the soft copy of the script, so it’s not possible.”

Dear Mr Source (we have no clue how close you are to Bhansali)

We are ready to put a bet. Lets do it. What we said, if thats not the plot of Guzaarish then we will shut our blog. And if its the same what we said in our post…”Guzaarish = Charulata + The Painted Veil + The Sea Inside plus sprinkle some magic in it” then ? Or should we wait till its release ? whatver you want to do Mr/Ms Source!

It seems to be a lucky day for cinema maniacs like us. We were surprised to find the script of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s new film Guzaarish in our mailbox.  Yes, yes!! Thank you, whoever did the good deed of the day! (if you got anything to share, do remember to mail us at moifightclub@gmail.com).

We will reserve our comments on the script for the script review post later on. But as we read the script, we were trying to imagine the visuals, and all we could see was three films – Charulata, The Painted Veil and The Sea Inside.

We are starting a new feature – CYCQ – Check your CQ (Cinema Quotient)! If Guzaarish is Charulata meets The Painted Veil meets The Sea Inside, see if you can crack the story. Do sprinkle some ‘magic’ in the plot.

The film stars Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai and newcomer Aditya Bal. Mail us or comment here!

maximum cityThe news was doing the rounds since last few weeks. And it seems to be true. After the success of Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle is all set to head back to Bombay, ok, Mumbai again. Danny has bought the rights of Suketu Mehta’s first book “Maximum City : Bombay Lost and Found”. Though nobody has confirmed the news yet. Its all hush-hush.

Mehta’s book is a non-fiction account of the city, a collage of essays, travelogue and journalistic account. And has real stories of human courage, spirit, dreams and disasters. And there lies the challenge of adapting it for the big screen.

Our guess – Danny’s film will use lot of info and background from the book and it will form the subplots. But the main plot will be something else. And to be on the safe side, he has bought the rights of the book. Much like what Vidhu Vinod Chopra did for Rajkumar Hirani’s Three Idiots. He bought the rights of Chetan Bhagat’s book Five Point Someone, as the film has similar backdrop. But the main plot doesnt have any similarity.

Boyle was in Mumbai recently and the buzz is that he is talking to Aamir Khan for his next.

And if the news is true, we are sure that one man will not be happy at all. Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Why ? Read the book or just google. We are feeling too lazy to get our hands dirty again.

How is that  ? Cool or Daddy Cool ? Actually the news made us happy, damn happy. Well, check out this trailer of the film Daddy Cool. Its produced by Indra Kumar and his partner Ashok Thakeria.

Those have seen the film ‘Death at a funeral’, can easily guess that its a straight lift. And those of you havent seen the film, here is the synopsis of Daddy Cool.

daddy koolSo, what can happen at a funeral? Even, if it’s the funeral of Daddy Cool Douglas Lazarus? It’s in Goa, tears, sad speeches, melancholia… right? Wrong! When… The coffin makers deliver the wrong body.

Good Son Steven Lazarus (Suniel Shetty), an aspiring writer tries to give his father a decent funeral by delivering a eulogy…that includes a description of the rivers of Goa. Having flown in first class younger brother Brian (Ashish Chowdhry), suave, successful and much admired writer from Mumbai, not ready to share responsibility for his mother, saying “He barely has money to support himself and his dogs.” A rather “comfortable” estate agent Pinto (Vijay Patkar) tries to close a house deal for Nancy (Aarti Chabria) Steven’s wife who is trying to get away from her mother-in-law Mrs. Lazarus (Suhasini Mulay) , who though just bereaved, lives up to her title admirably.

A prospective groom Michael (Aftab Shivdasani) to a cousin, Maria (Tulip Joshi), nervous about meeting father-in-law to be (Naseer Abdullah ) comes in completely spaced out because of a hallucinogenic drug given to him out of Maria’s junkie brother Harry’s (Chunky Pandey) bottle of “Relaxo.” A knife-wielding suspicious Jenny (Kim Sharma) finds her husband Carlos (Javed Jaffrey) pleading forgiveness from the red- hot model Ayesha (Sophie Chodhry). While the model, told to bestow her favours on a man in a black suit, in order to feature in an ad film, finds herself in a room full of potential employers.

A repulsive spit on hands and flick back hair, Roadside Romeo kind of aspiring boyfriend, Jim (Vrajesh Hirjee) thinks that even a funeral is an opportunity to impress Maria. A doddering old Uncle Murphy (Prem Chopra) in a wheelchair believes in practicing “rapchick” to get the girls…And then enters a “Blackmailer” Andrew (Rajpal Yadav) who has a scandalous secret about the deceased Douglas “Daddy Cool” Lazarus (Sharat Saxena).

So what does happen is complete melange of madness, chaos, and a laugh a minute! So is it a ‘fun’eral? Or should we say the fun is real?

death at a funeralDeath At A funeral’s story is exactly the same. Whats more, it has midget and copying the same idea they have casted Rajpal Yadav for the same. Great guts, we must say.

According to Mid-day, Indra Kumar had to pay two crore to the producers of Death At A funeral, in an out-of-court settlement. About two months back, the makers sent a legal notice to the Indra and his business partner Ashok Thakeria stating that if the need arose they’d take this matter to court or he should simply offer to buy the rights of the film. The two parties had a meeting last week and Indra and Ashok handed two crore check to them.

We love it! Now they should understand why writers need to be paid more, much more than just peanuts!

Plagiarism dope : Here is the new trick of bollywood directors/producers. They would copy the film first and then write a letter to the producer of the original film stating that they have made a film and have just discovered that the “idea” of their film sounds similar to the original one. Since there is no copyright on “idea”, the original producer gives a green signal to our chor filmmakers. UTV and Ravi Chopra did the same for Aamir and Banda Yeh Bindaas hai. The original ones are Cavite and My Cousin Vinny.

We wonder if Karan Johar has bought the rights or just taken “idea” permission for remaking Stepmom ? As always, we will kep you posted.

KrrishAfter Koi Mil Gaya, he wants them back! But not as the friendly Jadoo this time. He wants them to be big menace, powerful villains. The superhero played by Hrithik Roshan will get to beat them and save the world.

Also, the threat will be much bigger in the third part of the series. Tentatively titled Krrish2, the story will move beyond the family issue or anything to do with india. Post-Kites, Hrithik wants to go international, and on the lines of Hollywood superheroes, the aliens will be on the mission to destro the world.

But there is a problem! According to gossipmongers, the writers developing the script of Krrish2 are not too excited with Hrithik’s idea of aliens. They feel alien villains will be too alien for desi junta. The script is still in development and has not been locked yet.

Papa Roshan also wants a fresh pair in the film. Ofcourse beta Roshan cant be replaced and so he is thinking about a new actress opposite him. Among the many other names, Deepika Padukone is a strong contender for the role. Once Kites is released, Rakesh Roshan will focus all his attention on Krrish2.

This one is fightclub exclusive. And by exclusive, we mean it, unlike others.

vidhu vinod chopraThis is one insane man whom we absolutely adore. Because this man loves and worships cinema. Here goes our xclusive dope….Vidhu Vinod Chopra is busy developing a new script tentatively titled Pachasvi Saalgirah (50th Anniversary). As the name suggests, its about an old couple who are soon going to celebrate their 50th marriage anniversary (isnt that rare these days). And so whats the plan ? The old man wants to spend the anniversary night in a five star hotel, his long cherished dream. Then ? Well, the script is still being developed. So all you curious folks have to wait some more. We will get you more when it happens.

Also, Munnabhai Chale Amreeka and Ferarri Ki Sawari’s story sessions are very much on. But looks like Talisman may not happen soon. The priority is Broken Horses after Three Idiots which is almost done.

Dope on Raj Kumar Hirani’s Three Idiots – Aamir Khan is NOT playing a college student in the film. No need to worry about his looks and get up any more. He plays a mysterious character who lands up in a college to spread some gud old philosophy about education system..whats right and whats not!

Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey is ready for release. And like us, if you are dying to know what is Vishal upto this time, here is some dope. Glamsham.com has the film’s synopsis…

kamineyGuddu (Shahid Kapoor) and Charlie (Shahid Kapoor) are brothers, born and raised in Dharavi, the world’s largest slum dwelling in the heart of the megalopolis, Mumbai.

They also happen to be identical twins, in early twenties, hoping to leave the squalor behind and move into a life of prosperity and dignity. But the similarity ends here.

Guddu works as a trainee in a small NGO firm in the city. He hopes to climb up to the top of the corporate ladder. He wants to be a bona fide member of the burgeoning Indian middle class. His career has only just begun though and the road to bourgeoisie is both long and arduous. Yet Guddu is at it. He is honest, diligent and careful. Especially careful.

Charlie makes a living hedging bets at the race course. He moves around the plush hordes of the rich and famous at the races. For him this is just a way to make quick money and he dreams of becoming a legitimate bookie one day. Charlie is street smart, wily and brave. And only for himself.

The brothers don’t like each other. They believe they have nothing in common, not even their speech defect. While Guddu stammers, especially when he is nervous, Charlie has a lisp. The brothers have built their lives so that their paths don’t ever cross. They believe it’s only a question of time before they are out of each other’s sight forever.

All that is about to change. In one day. A day of reckoning. An unusual day; just right for the unusual events that unfold in its course.

Credits – Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj (Maqbool, Omkara, Makdee, The Blue Umbrella), Kaminey stars Shahid Kapur (in a double role), Priyanka Chopra as a middle-class Marathi girl and Amole Gupte (writer of Taare Zameen Par) in a negative role. The music of the film has been scored by director Vishal himself and lyrics by maestro Gulzar.

love-aaj-kal new posterLove Aaj Kal – as the name suggests, its about the changing philosophy of love. What was it yesterday and how is it today ?

With fast food joints, coffee shops, quick delivery pizzas and nachos, has the love quotient also changed or is it still the same ? Bollywood’s new love guru Imtiaz Ali ponders over it.

The conclusion – well, we all know. Its a happy ending. The style has changed but the experience remains the same. Here is some exclusive info about the film’s synopsis.

Love Aaj Kal is the story of Jai ( Saif Ali Khan) and Meera (Deepika Padukone). It starts at a cafe in London which is run by Vir Singh ( Rishi Kapoor). The duo meet, jump into bed first and then they fall in love. With Jai-Meera’s love story, there is parallel track of Vir Singh, his love story with Harleen, which happens in flashback and is set in Delhi. One is today’s love story and the other is of yesteryears. Saif Ali also plays the younger Vir Singh (Rishi Kapoor). And who is Harleen ? Deepika ? We got no clue. Rahul Khanna also has a cameo in the film.

Mid-day has published the plot details of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next Guzaarish. It stars Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai. Here is more about the story of the film from the report.

The film bears similarities to John Badham’s Whose Life Is It Anyway? and will see Hrithik in a wheelchair for most of the scenes.

Hrithik plays Ethan, a radio show host. Aishwarya plays a married nurse who is also Hrithik’s caregiver. The film also deals with the controversial subject of mercy killing/euthanasia. Ash’s character is interesting because she plays a married woman who gets attracted to Hrithik as the second half progresses. The film has dark tones throughout.

Paraplegia is an impairment in motor and/or sensory function of the lower extremities. It is usually the result of spinal cord injury or a congenital condition such as spina bifida.

And according to our sources Hrithik plays a magician whose trick geoes wrong during one of the performances and thats how he becomes paraplegic. Looks like Bhansali is In the mood for “Black” again!
