Its one of the much awaited films of the year! Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year starring Ranbir Kapoor.  Its produced by Aditya Chopra (Yashraj Films). Director Shimit Amit & writer Jaideep Sahni, last time the duo came together and delievered the blockbuster Chak De India ( Har team me ek hi goonda hota hai..woohoo) !

BTW it seems the trailer of the film is also out. WTF! Why is it still not online ? Why would anyone want to hide it when the whole point of the trailer is to get everyone curious about the film! We are not going to watch any of three duds to catch the trailer! We saw a teaser of the film today (is this the trailer? ) in which Ranbir Kapoor comes on screen, introduces himself and as a salesman tries to sell the film in 60 seconds with a clock ticking on left corner of the screen! It ends with Ranbir Kapoor doing few dance steps, in the same salesman attire. It doesnt say or show much but we are waiting and how!

What we know – As the name suggests, Rocket SIngh (Ranbir Kapoor) is a salesman who is doing great at his work. The story is about how this salesman slowly becomes a conman and how he starts operating a parallel company within the same company in which he is working without the knowledge of others.

Also, if you look carefully, its easy to spot SHIM IT Computers & JAIDEEP Computer Solutions in the pic which suggests the kind of company Rocket Singh is working for!

A new poster of Paa is floating in the blogosphere. A reader mailed it to us. Though it doesnt say much, but this is the one which they put out as full page ads recently on Bachchan’s birthday.

The film is directed by Balki and stars  Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan.

The first song promo of Kurbaan is out. The song is shukran allah. Its directed by Rensil D’Silva, produced by Karan Johar and stars Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi and Dia Mirza. Check it out!

Amitabh BachchanOne is growing insane with every passing day. Blame it on old age! The other is nasty and mean like any other tabloid. Whom to trust, thats difficult to judge, but we are loving it!

To celebrate Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday, Mid Day’s editor Abhijit Majumder did an interview with him and it was carried as the cover story on Sunday Mid Day (Oct 11). As expected, Bachchan’s interview was boring as always. Who’s the best director you’ve worked with? All. What are your favourite Bachchan films? Very, very tough. I like different films from my different phases. Women the world over have chased you. Have you chased any woman? No. And I don’t believe women chase me. Well, I did chase my wife and married her. Of all your female leads, was Rekha special? They’ve all been special. But people remember Rekha and your screen chemistry. I don’t know what screen chemistry is.

Huh! Boring as hell! Nothing new, nothing interesting! Only if it were all true. You can read the full interview here. The interview might be boring but post-interview it got interesting.

Later on, Bachchan got to know that the interview was recorded on a video camera too and he wasnt told about it. Bachchan felt it was a sting operation (see the pic. courtesy Mid Day)! On his blog, he attacked Abhijit Majumder and how! To quote from his blog…..

Two days later an FmXt member draws my attention to a video clip of my interview with the paper. I am surprised to hear it because I had never expected either the paper or any one else to have posted something which I would be unaware of. I saw the interview that has been put on air through a MidDay enterprise which works as a electronic news maker and now realize why Mr Majumdar wanted a personal meeting. He had placed a small ’sting’ camera on the table in front of me, without informing me that the interview was being video taped as well. He never told me that they had a video net facility in operation and that the recorded interview would find a place there.

Mr Majumdar, you were dishonest with me ! You insisted on a one to one interview not because you were being deprived of the opportunity of your ‘first’ with me, but because you had malefide intent of recording the interview to be used as a live input on a video electronic facility medium that your paper runs. Had you told me that you were recording this for a net broadcast I would never have minded. I was doing several electronic interviews every minute and another would have not made any difference. But by lying to me, the integrity that I had associated with you as an Editor for the paper you work for, has been damaged. Your entire effort, now that I look back, in assuring me of wanting to bring in change, of giving me the impression of an upright and erudite journalist has unfortunately been destroyed by this one incident. You have proven to me, yet again, that you or your tribe cannot be trusted.

In today’s edition of the paper, Abhijit Majumder has issued his clarification through a column and claims that he had not only told Bachchan about it but had even asked the same to his secretary. To quote Majumder…

Either you are lying or I am. I would like to believe it is neither; it’s just your memory playing tricks at twilight.

Which is acceptable.

What is not acceptable is loosely accusing a journalist who has learnt journalism the hard way and prides in his integrity of mala fide intention, lying and suchlike. If my intention were to malign you, I wouldn’t have spent a considerable amount of my time and energy trying to build bridges with you ignoring your past rants against MiD DAY in your blog, sought an interview and played it up on the front page.

Also, your accusation that what you said was misrepresented is facile because the interview in a pretty straightforward question -and-answer format and all that you said is recorded.

Mr Majumdar you say that you ‘had mentioned that both audio and video would be recorded’. That is undiluted garbage stinking rubbish. Every sms of yours seeking my interview is saved on my mobile. Every telephone conversation that you had with my office in this regard has been recorded. And, as you have yourself accepted, every move, action and word that you spoke on the day from the moment you entered my office to the time you left, is on video tape with me. No where, and I repeat, no where have you mentioned, that you would be doing a video recording. If you say your photographer Pradeep Dhiver was there, may I also inform you that my photographer Paresh Mehta and his two assistants were also there. You are not going to beat me by throwing names. These videos can be put up on my blog at the press of a button. Wanna’ see ?

And dear Sir, its not about your ‘word versus mine’, its about your video tape versus mine. And mine says that your conscience is not ‘clear’ at all. It is as densely clouded as the monsoon sky, so ironically visible on the day you came to take my interview.

If you were to look me straight in the eye and challenge me, I would not hesitate to look you straight back and justify. Put this cap of self righteous zeal over your own head and then come riding with me. I’ll whip your horse and you mine and lets see who rides the furthest and the longest.

3idiots1The synopsis of RajKumar Hirani’s new film 3 Idiots is out on its official website. The film is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi.

Boman Irani, Mona Singh, Jaaved Jaffery and Pareekshit Sahani are also in the film. Its written By RajKumar Hirani & Abhijaat Joshi, has music by Shantanu Moitra and lyrics by Swanand Kirkire.

A new still of Three Idiots (3 Idiots) is out. The film is directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi.

Its diwali time! And though there is no SRK release this diwali but there are three big releases. And all multi starrer films. We are yet not tempted to watch any of the three but lets see who scores how much. The early reviews…

BlueBlue, the 100 crore film directed by debutant Anthony D’Souza stars Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutt and Zayed Khan.

Anupama Chopra (NDTV) – Clearly Anthony D’Souza has ambition. He set out to give Indian audiences a new type of exotic thriller. But he got so busy orchestrating the king-sized stars, the equally big sharks and the blinding bling of the film that he forgot the basic connective tissue: the script. Blue is all washed up. See it if you must – 2/5

Rajeev Masand (CNN-IBN) – Blue, directed by Anthony D’souza is a brainless, forgettable action-thriller that quickly sinks without a trace. Let me say this right away: anyone expecting anything other than the sight of Lara Dutta in a skimpy bikini, or indeed Akshay Kumar with his shirt off, is going to be very disappointed – 1.5/5

Minty Tejpal (Mumbai Mirror) – This one could turn out to be as big a disaster as the Titanic. By Titanic, I mean the actual ship that sank, not the film that soared to the sky. Industry reports say that Blue cost over Rs 120 crores to produce and it seems that none of that fancy moolah went into script development. A large amount must have gone towards singer Kylie Minogue, whose appearance is a mere marketing gimmick  – 1 / 5

Chandrima Pal (Rediff) – Blue was supposed to be a thriller. But if you made Captain Haddock of Tintin fame watch it, I am sure he would exclaim : Blue blistering barnacles! – 2/5

Jaya Biswas (Buzz18)Blue could have been much more shorter. Come on, audience would rather watch all about the marine life on NatGeo or Animal Planet. Feeling blue? – 1.5/5

Taran Adarsh (Indiafm) – On the whole, BLUE has style as well as substance. The film has everything going in its favour, right from its incredible star cast to the superb action scenes to the hitherto unseen marine life to the tremendous hype and hoopla. At the box-office, BLUE will strike like a hurricane in the festive week – 4/5

Khalid Mohamed (PFC) – Blue is one bloomer of a movie. Don’t even think of all the crores spent on this kiddish enterprise. That’ll just leave you with one helluva sinking feeling – 1/5 and that’s being generous.

Gaurav Malani (ET) – Blue doesn’t glue you to the seat. Rather its corniness can make you see red – 2/5

Nikhat Kazmi (TOI) – Amongst the lead players, Sanjay looks a bit out of shape, Zayed is fresh and adequate, while Akshay keeps you guessing about his ethical moorings. The girls, Lara and Katrina, sashay down the screen with aplomb, adding the requisite oomph in this high-on-visuals drama. Go, feast your eyes on brawn and cheesecake – 3.5 / 5

It seems Blue is going to make you feel blue this diwali!

All the BestThe other big release of the week is All The Best directed by Rohit Shetty (Golmaal, Golmaal Returns) and stars Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Bipasha Basu, Fardeen Khan and Mugdha Godse.

Anupama Chopra (NDTV)All the Best is gleefully and unpretentiously moronic. I know film critics should set the bar higher but honestly, this is probably the most fun you’ll have in a theater this weekend. Go for It – 3/5

Taran Adarsh (Indiafm) – On the whole, ALL THE BEST is fun and laughter unlimited. At the box-office, the festive period coupled with the solid track record of Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty and also the strong merits will ensure ample footfalls at cineplexes, making its investors laugh all the way to the bank. Recommended! – 3.5/5 

Rajeev Masand (CNN-IBN) – Tucked away beneath those pointless songs and some ridiculous, overblown action scenes is a silly yet surprisingly enjoyable tale of misunderstandings and mistaken identities. Like most Bollywood comedies these days, All The Best is far too long, but it has a winning combination of cleverly crude humour and genuine sweetness – 3/5

Khalid Mohamed (Khalid’s Spot) – To be sure there are sight-`n’-sound gags which do pay off in Rohit Shetty’s All the Best, adapted from Paritosh Painter’s stageplay Uncle Samjha Karo, which itself was cadged from the 1960s farce Right Bed, Wrong Husband. Add to that a touch of Come September (1961) and you’re likely to gobble down one helluva fusion cuisine mishmash. Hang on though. In fact, the yay-yay news is that the result is digestible, perfect for a couple of laughs, a few titters and a haw-haw bellylaugh. Hyuk nyuk – 2.5 / 5

Minty Tejpal (Mumbai Mirror) – Once you are in the stupid comedy zone, story or logic becomes irrelevant, while the main idea is to be as foolish as possible, in which endeavour this film succeeds. What fun it must be cooking up these stories – 3/5

Nikhat Kazmi (TOI) – By far, this one’s not a rip-roaring comedy, but does make-do for some Diwali masti – 3/5

Parmita Uniyal (Hindustan Times) – Overall, if your doctor has advised you laughter therapy, then go watch All the Best. Ingredients of the medicine? Hilarious moments, rib-tickling dialogues, crisp editing, mind boggling situations, minus double meaning dialogues this time – 3/5 

Anand Vaishnav (Buzz18) – Despite a shaky start, All The Best works well as a comedy. It’s a clean sitcom packed with clever punches and witty one liners. This one’s for the entire family during the festive season – 3/5

Gaurav Malani (Indiatimes) – Supposedly based on an American play Right Bed Wrong Husband , Rohit Shetty’s All The Best is modeled as a comedy of mistaken identities finding its desi -siblings in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Chukpe Chupke and Anees Bazmee’s No Entry . Though not as simple as the former or smart as latter, the comedy still clicks with its unstable blend of story, style, sense, slapstick and stunts – 3/5

Main Aur Mrs KhannaAnd the third one is Main Aur Mrs Khanna by debutant Prem Soni, starring Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Sohail Khan.

NDTV (Anupama Chopra) – Not surprisingly, the film sinks like a stone. Much of the action in Main Aur Mrs Khanna takes place at the airport. But thats not the only reason you will feel like you are stuck in transit. Steer clear – 1.5/5

Rajeev Masand (CNN-IBN)Main Aurr Mrs Khanna is what they call a “home production” in Bollywood slang. It’s the kind of film a star agrees to do in exchange for a fat salary that pays for his or her dream home. When the deal is so good, you don’t raise questions about the script – 1/5

Taran Adarsh (Indiafm) – On the whole, MAIN AURR MRS. KHANNA is weak in merits. At the box-office, the BLUE wave, followed by another strong opposition in ALL THE BEST will sideline MAIN AURR MRS. KHANNA completely. It’s a non-starter – 1.5 / 5 

Rediff – We wonder what made Salman say yes to Prem Soni’s directorial debut when he had already done a film on a similar topic in Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar. Surely it’s not to revive his brother Sohail’s (he is the producer of MAMK) flagging career ? Well, whatever the reason, don’t hold your breath : Main Aur Mrs Khanna is a failed attempt – 1.5/5

Minty Tejpal (Mumbai Mirror) – What a slow, strange, boring film which starts with nothing and then gratingly proceeds to go nowhere. Directed by a debutante, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna is like a little moral fable that could well have been summed up in a simple greeting card. They sure as hell didn’t need the entire movie, and certainly not stars like Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor.Did either of them even read the script before signing on, or was it all for brother Sohail Khan? – 1 / 5

Suranjana Nandy (Buzz18)Main Aurr Mrs Khanna is not entertaining in the accepted sense of the word. But it’s a neat little film which teaches a lot about life. It’s not fun, it’s meaningful. It definitely isn’t Oscar material, but it (and I’ll use this much abused phrase here) has its heart in the right place – 3/5

Nikhat Kazmi ( TOI) – For, Main aurr Mrs Khanna seems to have no passion at all. Neither love, nor anger, nor pain, nor envy. In an attempt to create a low key drama, debutant director, Prem Soni divests his film of all energy. Truly, this must be Kareena’s most thanda performance which fails to strike a single chord. So unlike the feisty actor! – 2 / 5

Best Foreign Language Film – This is one category which is getting tougher every year. Because an Oscar Award easily turns into big bucks for any film from any country. And this year 65 countries have submitted films for consideration.

Harishchandrachi FactoryMarathi film Harishchandrachi Factory is India’s official entry to this year’s Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film Category. The film is directed by Paresh Mokashi who has been doing theatre since last twenty years. Harishchandrachi Factory is Mokashi’s debut film. The film traces the obstacles and hurdles faced by Dhundiraj Phalke ( or Dada Saheb Phalke, also known as the father of Indian cinema) while he was making the first Indian film Raja Harishchandra in 1913. So,  Harishchandrachi Factory will compete with films from 64 countries!

anurag kashyapWe know its the year of 9! Tim Burton produced Shane Acker’s 9! Peter Jackson gave us Neil Blomkamp’s District Nine. And we are waiting eagerly for Rob Marshall’s musical Nine! 

And here in bollywood, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has also scored 9! Believe it or not, he has signed a nine film deal with UTV Motion Pictures, to be made in the next three years! Woohoo! All it takes is just one hit film, Dev D! Though not much details is out yet but it seems Anurag will direct 4-5 films and will be involved as Creative Producer for the rest 4-5. Well, we have never believed in quantifying cinema but then, if someone like Anurag Kashyap is getting the money to make the kind of films he wants to do, we are waiting and how!

And according to TOI, the next film of Anurag Kashyap which is soon going into production is a smart edgy thriller titled Happy Ending. Anurag denies the title, and says its called Yellow Boots. The script has been co-written by his girlfreind Kalki Koechlin,who also stars in it alongwith Naseeruddin Shah. You can read the full report on their first labour of love here.

Only because we really don’t know how to respect our heroes. The man, the voice, the legend whom we all love so much and have so many memories. So many moments of life would have been so difficult if he wasn’t with us. Something for every occasion, for every one. At many times, when life seems impossible, I close my eyes and let his voice do the rest. They say, its magic, pure bliss. And it would be the same for generations to come. Can you imagine a world without the voice of Kishore Kumar?

But we still dont know how to give due respect to his memories, his life, his contribution to our life. 13 October is Kishoreda’s death anniversary. And as we rewind, it feels so pathetic that we dont even have a memorial for him. Few years back the MP Government made an announcement for the same, but its still not complete. Local people have also donated whatever they could but then its sarkari. Whatever work has happened there, people are more interested in flashing their names. And its a long list.

His home Gauri Kunj (Khandwa) still remains in pathetic condition. Some work has been done to restore it but its almost zilch. Take a look at the pics. We dont need to say more!
