KAUFMAN - "Or cramming in sex, or car chases, or guns. Or characters learning profound life lessons. Or characters growing or characters changing or characters learning to like each other or characters overcoming obstacles to succeed in the end. Y'know ? Movie shit."
Kaufman is sweating like crazy now. Valerie is quiet for a moment - from "Adaptation".
We are all about CINEMA. That movie shit.
NOTHING is sacred.
NOBODY is spared.
Because we talk about films, dammit.
Not your sex life.

Aha, this seems like the perfect pitch for its theatrical release in India. We love it, except the title font and its colour, which looks little bland in the middle of all that chaos. For us, its “days of being wild & pains of growing up” and the poster seems to have captured that.
The lead actor is Rajat Barmecha, who looks a lot like Imran Khan and acts million times better than him. For our review of Udaan click here, for Vikramaditya Motwane & Anurag Kashyap’s video interviews here, for earlier poster/pics/synopsis of the film here and for all the Cannes jazz here.
Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan had its screening on 19th May at the Cannes Festival 2010. Here are few pics that we have managed so far.
For more pics, click here. Also thanks to Roger Ebert who tweeted a video link and we managed to grab the screenshot of Udaan.
And here is the video that Roger Ebert tweeted…

Yes, she is very much alive! In Hollywood, as she claims! And in just few months has even managed to put a fake accent. We will come to that later. BTW, first look of Mallika Sherawat’s s0-called Hollywood film is out. Have a look. Its called Love, Barack.
The film is directed by William Dear. Mallika Sherawat plays Aretha Gupta, a devoted local Obama volunteer coordinator. And a month before the election day, Democrat Aretha unexpectedly falls for her Republican counterpart (Alonso),a handsome, dynamic African-American working for the local McCain office.
And coming back to her accent, click on the play button and enjoy! She was at Cannes for her film Hisss’ promotion. Interview by NDTV’s Anupama Chopra.
This is purely for cheap thrill. Two days back, we posted Aishwarya Rai’s Cannes pics on our blog and suddenly there are two Eiffel towers on the blog stats page. Is the whole world googling her ? So, now we are wondering can Mallika Sherwat’s Cannes pics beat those twin towers of Aishwary Rai ? Plus its pure gimmick! The name is Mallika!….ah Mallika…oh Mallika….ouch Mallika! Do we need to say more. Enjoy!
BTW, she is there for the promotion of her latest release Hisss (Not sure how many “S”). But the gimmick seems too thanda by Cannes standard! Even Mathieu Amalric and his co-stars did better on the red carpet!
PS – Dear Mallika, this is 2010. Scroll down and see what they did in 1954. The last pic in the last row – Robert Mitchum and Simone Silva!
Yes! F-I-N-A-L-L-Y! Aur mere aankhon me khushi ke aanson aa gaye! Great for him and good for us becuase we cant take any more flooded timelines with his Paani tweets!
It was offcially announced at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival where Shekhar Kapur is on jury. Click here to read the full report by The Hollywood Reporter or scroll down if you are interested in knowing only the key points that matter. Plus pic and a video attached.
– Shekhar Kapur will direct “Paani” (Water) and the script is by David Farr.
– The budget of the film is $30 million and is produced by Swarovski Entertainment and Adlabs founder-turned-producer Manmohan Shetty.
– Kapur plans to shoot in November with additional backing from Walk Water in Singapore, Dubai and on large purpose-built sets being designed by John Myrhe.
– The project also marks the first full-length feature backed by Swarovski’s start-up entertainment arm.
– A R Rahman is on board as the music director and has already composed two songs for the project.
– Its a love story set in a mega city in a future where precious H2O has all but run out and corporations go to war over its control. The city is divided into two conflicting halves, in which the upper city hoards all the water and drip feeds the slums of the lower city. A girl from the upper tier meets a water rat boy and falls in love against this backdrop.
– “Blue Covenant” author Maude Barlowe is aboard and hopes Kapur’s film will play a part in taking awareness to a whole new level. Danny Boyle will also get producer’s credit.
And our national obsession continues! What is she wearing ? why is she wearing what she is wearing! Why so thin ? Why so fat ? Whats the size – zero or one plus zero zero! So, here its all – the possible pics in all the plastic poses – dissect, discuss or do whatever you want to!
And yes, its an official selection. The film will be screened in the Un Certain Regard Section of the festival. Its NOT like flying KITES at Cannes!
Udaan is directorial debut of Vikramaditya Motwane and is produced by Sanjay Singh and Anurag Kashyap. It stars Ronit Roy, Ram Kapoor, Rajat Barmecha and Ayan Boradia. Its a coming of age story revolving around father-son relationship.
Motwane co-wrote Dev D with Anurag Kashyap and has worked in various capacity (read sound, choreography & more) before that. And he must be the only common factor between the cinema of Bhansali (sound designer n AD on Devdas) & Kashyap!
Nikhil Advani had signed him earlier and was supposed to produce Motwane’s debut film. But somehow the film never happened. Thats when Kashyap stepped in and decided to produce Udaan. Nikhil Advani went on to produce Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai! What a deserving tight slap!

Finally, here comes Desi Cinema Paradiso. No, make that Cinema Para-desi!
The first trailer of Dev Benegal’s Road, Movie is out. The film stars Abhay Deol, Tannistha Chatterjee and Satish Kaushik. The screenplay was selected for the L’Atelier section at the Cannes Film Festival 2006. Its having its world premiere at the ongoing Toronto Film Festival. Deol plays a truck driver who makes a life changing journey across India as he hits the road with a travelling cinema.
And here is the 2min trailer..
And the synopsis of the film..
A young man’s journey into the unknown becomes the odyssey of a lifetime.
Vishnu, a restless young man, comes up with a plan to save his father’s faltering hair-oil business. It’s madness: an excursion into the unknown, driving an old, decrepit lorry across a harsh but stunning terrain.
His personal journey becomes an odyssey across the mythical Indian landscape as he discovers he’s transporting not just a battered vehicle, but an old touring cinema.
The expedition takes on carnivalesque proportions of endurance as Vishnu confronts a young runaway, a wandering, old entertainer with a bear, a beautiful gypsy woman, corrupt cops and a notorious water-lord.
The key to his freedom is the eccentric collection of films and the two 40-year-old film projectors that lie inside the bowels of the lorry. Like “1001 Nights” if the films are good he gets to live and move on, otherwise he faces death in the isolated countryside.
The road trip is to change the life of each of the travellers, especially that of Vishnu, who discovers life, love and laughter along the Indian highway.
First, the not so exclusive news : Kites is 3 hours long! Ok, 2 hours and 50 minutes to be precise! Like us, if the multiplex-distributors’ strike has also made you desperate to step into the theatre to watch any new release (exception – Kal Kisne Dekha doesnt count, even if we get free tickets…we have seen its “kal“) then get ready to be compensated soon, atleast with the duration. Because its three hours of Hrithik Roshan singing, dancing, jumping, kissing and everything possible. After all, its produced by Papa Rakesh Roshan.
And now the exclusive one : Kites scored a Big “zero” at the Cannes Film Festival. But its a gutsy story! The name justifies it all. BIG pictures, big film, big stars, big film festival and a big zero. So Papa Roshan alongwith beta Hrithik Roshan, director Anurag Basu, Barbara Mori and Amit Khanna (Big Pictures) landed up at Cannes to promote the film. Now, why would you go to an international platform like Cannes and make a fool of yourself ? What will they say – From the makers of Krazzy4 ? And how they paid 2cr for plagiarising a song! Dont believe us, take a look at its promo.
Is there anything exciting about it ? (Barbara doesnt count if you think she is hot) Doesnt it look like Dhoom1 meets Dhoom2 ? Hollywood churns out movies with this kind of action almost every year, and nobody keeps the count. So who would get impressed with such a trailer ? They tried hard to sell the film. Met five big international distributors and everyone rejected the film. All five. No interest, no buyer. Cannes result = zero.
BTW, Rakesh Roshan was really hoping for a big international deal because lot of it is in spanish! Ahh…if only someone could tell him that they have seen this kind of stuff ages ago! Its may be first for him, or his beta!

Love is not about finding someone who will make you feel complete….but having someone with whom you can share your incompleteness….Thats Do Paise ki Dhoop, Chaar Aane Ki Baarish, Deepti Naval’s directorial debut.
The film has Rajit Kapoor and Deepti’s best friend Manisha Koirala in lead roles and it deals with the bonding between two unlikely and unusual person. The buzz is that Rajit potrays a gay character in the film. Deepti is busy promoting her film at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival. Though not much is known about the film but here is a sneak peek…two new pics of the film. With such a Gulzar-ish title and Deepti at director’s chair, we are looking forward to it.
