Time to pat our back! Do it guys. Its a hattrick! We were the first to tell you about Tera Kya Hoga Johnny’s internet leak (thnx to our good friend Puneet), about Harischandrachi Factory’s Oscar disappointment and now this one. Those who follow us on twitter, know it well. Ok, enough of being loudmouth brag like Sajid Khan!

Since the news is out now, we can happily reveal it all. We told you about this news in this post but didnt reveal the name. And that was alsmot 10 days ago. The hint we gave was in the form of an anagram – I see you, Luly! Read it as I C U, LULY. Jumble the letters and you will get the answer – its Lucy Liu.

Yes, Lucy Liu is coming to India soon to make her directorial debut and shoot a feature film. Its tentatively titled Half The Sky. The story is set in Bihar and it deals with human trafficking. The buzz is that Tannishtha Chatterjee has been signed for the film. Watch out this space for more updates soon.

And you know where! If not, ask the pirates. If you still cant find it, then also its fine. Dont worry, wait for its theatrical release. But the news is shocking for sure.

If the big boys could not save Wolverine, whats the big deal about Johnny. Recently it happened the same with Anurag Kashyap’s Paanch also which was rumoured to be leaked out by the director himself because Anurag was tired of waiting for its theatrical release. Ashutosh Gowariker’s Whats Your Raashee was also leaked out before its theatrical release. Its another matter that nobody wanted to watch it for free also.

Tera Kya Hoga Johnny is directed by Sudhir Mishra and stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kay Kay Menon, Soha Ali, Shahana Goswami, Karan Nath and Sikandar who plays the lead role of Johnny.

But it seems both the director and producer are clueless about it. Or is it Sudhir Mishra who was frustrated waiting for its release, got inspired by his good freind Kashyap and leaked it out himself ? Or it got leaked out through a festival screener ? The film was doing the festival round. Aha, conspiracy theories and more! Whatever it is, but now Johnny seriously needs to worry ki ab kya hoga

Yes, here he is! One of the musketeers. And his partner in crime is none other than lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya. We googled a lot but could not get any pic of his. So, had to settle with only Amit Trivedi’s pic.

After the music and the film released, everyone wondered about Band Master Rangeela and Rasila’s identity, the duo who have been credited for the vocals of Emosanal Atyachaar in Dev D. But there was no straight answer. Click here to read an interesting report published in DNA on the same. It seems it was all fake or as they say, great cheap thrill! Aha, we are not the only ones who live by the mantra that life is all about cheap thrills!

Recently a friend was making his year end music list and was talking to the musicians involved to figure out more about their songs. When it came to Emosanal Attyachaar, he got to know everything except the identity of Master Rangeela & Rasila, the guys who delivered the anthem of the year. That got us more curious and see what what we finally discovered.

BTW, seems like even dozen good songs in an album are not good enough for the Screen Awards nominations. Check out their nomination list here. Can anyone enlighten us about the morons who made the list. They deserve special mention.

PS – Amit & Amitabh, sorry to burst the bubble. This one is cheaper thrill!

What new can we say about him which has not been said before. And we fall short of words when it comes to describing the magic created by R D Burman. So on this anniversary, forget everything and listen to the Master’s voice. The madness that created magic. And say a big thanx to our music museum in Jaipur named Pavan Jha.

The music clip might take few seconds to load. so please bear.

And here is the magic from that madness…

Dhan TeDan! Its here. The much awaited film of the year, Raj Kumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots is all set to release this friday. The film stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kpoor, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Omi Vaidya. The screenings have started and two of our good friends (CA & MP) who have already seen the film wrote a mini-review for us.

In short, whatever you are expecting from Raj Kumar Hirani, he delivers and delivers it well. It will make only one man will be unhappy – Shah Rukh Khan. Here it is, first from CA…

Film has Munnabhai feel and Raju Hirani’s touch, which is simplistic yet very profound. Like the usage of day to day nuances is beautiful, including ‘all is well’. Good performances by the entire cast, and every charcter has been etched out well. Film takes few liberties and seems like any other regular masala hindi film, but it goes damn well with the film’s tone. The emotional graph of the film is really very well maintained, good mix of emotional scenes and really funny situations. Overall a great entertainer  – CA

And here is the mini-review by MP….

Living up to the hype of 3 Idiots, Raju Hirani does manage to dish out a complete entertainer for this year end. This edition of his movies takes a leaf out form the lives of students at the Imperial College of Engineering which epitomizes the mechanical competitive race that we have be become, leaving no scope for wisdom, thought and education. Having said that, the movie is a riot of humour and emotions. After the Munnabhai series, 3 Idiots does carve out Raju Hirani’s figure of a social commentator. The movies scores in all its departments. Performance of the ensemble cast, nuances of the jokes, cinematography, dialogues are all very well done. The pace of the movie is not marred by the songs and they do carry the story forward. All in all a movie not to be missed. The dialogues and the situations in the movie are to watch out for. Ramlingam’s (verify character name) speech on teacher’s day is hilarious and so is his performance. All the characters are belivable and I feel like I have met such people. Cranky professors, pranks, discussions, and the way students do “jugaad” is quite reminiscent of my own college days – MP

Time for SPOILER! Go ahead at your own risk. Should we do it ? or Shouldn’t we ? We love being nasty, but only to those whom we hate. And Hirani doesnt feature in that list. But see if we can crack it. Test Your CQ.

We are sure that you already know the synopsis of 3 Idiots. If you dont, click here. The surprise element in the film is Rancho’s story. So, the big question is who is Rancho (Aamir Khan) and why does he vanishes ?

1.  He is on a mission. A secret mission, much like what Shah Rukh Khan was doing in Main Hoon Na.

2. He gets completely disillusioned with the education system and charts out a new way where talent is given prefernce over merit.

3. He is posing as someone else and so cant reveal his identity to anyone. He returns back to his place because he has miles to go and promises to keep. Just another good soul doing good deeds!

4. Its a big set up to run away with the girl he falls for, Kareena Kapoor who is Boman Irani’s daughter, but unintentionally ends up teaching few lessons to everyone.

5.  He ends up commiting a BIG  BIG mistake (remember Ketan Mehta’s Holi) and with no option in hand he runs away from everyone. But truth is something else and he finally redeems himself.

Take  a guess, test you Cinema Quotient and put it in the comment section. And here are few more general observations by those who saw it and mailed us….

1.Boman Irani delivers it again. In spirit, he is much like Dr Asthana but in a new character.

2. Kareena Kapoor doesnt have much to do.

3.The film belongs to Aamir Khan. It takes some time to settle down with his character and mannerism but once it happens, there is no looking back.

4. What doesnt work ? Hmmmm. Hmmmmmmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Few cinematic liberties, thats it!

5.The story starts with Madhavan narrating the story of Rancho, their college life and as expected, ends on a happy note.

6.Who is that fourth guy ? After the film, lot of people will ask this question and google his name.  Yes, a new actor! Omi Vaidya is Los Angeles based actor who makes his debut in bollywood with 3 Idiots.

BTW, if you still havent read Trash Adarsh’s review, click here.  And go book your tickets.

Dibakar Banerjee is ready with his new film titled Love Sex Aur Dhokha. LSD, ah…killer! With LSD, Dibakar is going digital, low budget ( just 2 cr), all new actors and even ADULT! And here is the story/plot/synopsis of the film….

Rahul, a final year film student, gears up for his diploma film. With his digital camera, with an amateur cast, he starts etching the perennial themes of the great bollywood love epic – his ideal – into his low budget magnum opus. While testing actors for his film he falls in love with Shruti, a new student who he casts as his heroine.

Somewhere in the same city, Adarsh, an unemployed young man, installs security cameras in a small upcoming 24 hour departmental store. Under pressure to pay off a loan shark – Adarsh gets persuaded by his friend from the camera company to act ina  porn clip recorded through the security cameras in the shop.

In another corner of the city, Prabhat – once a committed sting journalist following cases of national importance – tethers on the brink of collapse. When he meets Naina, a dancer, who is trying to commit suicide, Prabhat sees the last chance to set his life right –a  sting that exposes India’s biggest pop star, Laki Local.

LSD is a roller coaster ride told through three different cameras that instead of passively recording the characters invades the drama, affecting the outcome of the characters’ destinies, snooping, prying, baring the fangs of real perversion hidden deep inside all of us.

And if you want to know more about LSD, how and why, click here for our previous post on the film and its treatment.

Santosh Sivan is the new one to join the club after Farhan Akhtar, Rituparno Ghosh, Anurag Kashyap and Hansal Mehta. Cinematographer turned director Sivan is now in front of the camera for a Malyalam film titled Makaramanju. The film is directed by Lenin Rajendran.

Sivan plays the role of renowned painter Raja Ravi Varma in the film and Karthika, yesteryear actress Radha’s daughter is the lead actress in the film. And we can bet for one thing. Sivan will be much better than Randeep Hooda in Ketan Mehta’s Rang Rasiya because atleast he knows how to hold the paint brush as he comes from a painting background. Rest we are not so sure! Take a look!

The first look of Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi starrer Kurbaan is out. The film is produced by Karan Johar and directed by Rensil D’Silva. Check it out….The tagline is Some Love Stories Have Blood On Them! And to know why, how and what blood this love story has, scroll down.

Kurbaan2Kurbaan

And if the second poster is any indication of things to come, expect full on smooches and love making scenes between Saif and Kareena!

Here is the exclusive dope! The plot/story/synopsis of Kurbaan.

SPOILER ALERT! Dont read further if enjoy every small surprise!

This one also starts in USA, like other recents films of Karan Johar! Kareena is based in US and comes back to her hometown Delhi when her father suffers a heart attack. She meets Saif Ali Khan, a Delhi University Professor and falls for him. Phir kya…yaar, ishq, mohabbat, naach gaana and the couple gets married. They go back to USA with dreams of a new family life. But its not what it looks like.

Kareena discovers that her husband (Saif Ali Khan) is not professor but a mastermind terrorist who used her to protect his identity! Dhen Tedan!! Saif figures out that Kareena has found his true identity and puts her under house arrest.

Enters Vivek Oberoi. The high profile tv journalist who works with a big news network in USA. Kareena gets to know that Saif Ali Khan and his men are planning to hijack and bomb an airplane. The same plane which Vivek is going to board soon for some assignment. The rest of the film is about how Kareena with the help of Vivek tries to save the lives of passengers onboard.

What happens to the “blood”y love story ? Your guess is as good as mine. So, place your bets!

Whats Your Raashee ?WTF!!! Yes, that was our first reaction when we heard about it! We know that Ashutosh Gowariker cant make films less than 3 hours and he got it right in his last three films – Jodha Akbar, Swades and Lagaan. All three films were longer than 3 hours.

But, Harman Baweja is not Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan or Hrithik Roshan! Also, there is no A R Rahman this time! The songs are fuckall, atleast we didnt like a single song in the What’s Your Raashee album. And this must be the longest romcom in the history of cinema! We are praying and how!

If gossipmongers are to be believed Ashutosh Gowariker is not happy with 3hrs 20 mins, he wants to keep it at 3hrs 40mins! Is he planning a filmy version of Mujhe Iss Film Se Bachao!

The promos look bad, the songs suck, Harman is horrible but we still want to see the film. Because we trust the director and 12 avtaars of Priyanka seems interesting idea! Very few actors get to do something like this! Sincerly hoping that Gowariker hasnt lost it like many others!

Prakash RajYes, its confirmed. The rumours have been floating around for since last few hours. And its all true.

Prakash Raj has bagged the National Award for Best Actor for his performance in Priyadarshan’s film Kanchivaram. Atleast this one should be non controversial. Its a truly deserving one. I remember watching it at the Mumbai premeire of the film. And since then, I cant remember anything so powerful and so moving. Its just stunning!

In the film, Prakash Raj plays the role of a weaver who dreams about a silk saree for his daughter’s marriage.  What looks like a simple dream is much more complex than one can imagine. Money, politics, unions, the problems never end.

The acting is so powerful that the young and the old Prakash Raj seem to be two different actors. If you havent seen it yet, do watch. If for nothing else, just for the acting! Happy to hear this news about Prakash Raj, his third National Award! More power to actors like him!

BTW, rumours doing the round suggests that Priyadarshan has also bagged the National Award for Best Director and the film Kanchivaram will get it for Best Film.

Update : Gandhi My Father has also bagged three awars. Best Film ( Prdoucer – Anil Kapoor. Am guessing this one is the hindi language category), Feroze Abbas Khan ( Best Screenplay) and Darshan Zariwalla (Best Supporting Actor).
