The first trailer of Danny Boyle’s new film 127 Hours is out. Wondering why we are posting it here ? Two reasons. Well, if Vishwanathan Anand is not Indian, then Danny Boyle can be half-Indian. And it has music by A R Rahman. Check it out.

Wow! What energy. And the best part is that Boyle goes to other extreme after Slumdog Millionaire. From populist desi masala to a film revolving around just one character. The film is going to have its premiere at the Toronto International Film festival. And here is the official synopsis of the film….

127 HOURS is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston’s (James Franco) remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah.

Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers (Clemence Poesy), family, and the two hikers (Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara) he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet?

A visceral thrilling story that will take an audience on a never before experienced journey and prove what we can do when we choose life.

And if it sounds interesting, do check the two videos where Aron Ralston talks about it….

And here is the official synopsis of the film…

Paan Singh Tomar is an untold true story of a simple farmer, a loyal soldier and a champion athlete who became one of India’s most dreaded dacoits!

Paan Singh was a small town lad who went on to win the steeplechase at the Indian National Games for 7 consecutive years! He broke the national record, a feat that was unsurpassed for 10 years! A series of life changing events however forced Paan Singh to give up athletics, pick up the gun and become the scourge of the infamous Chambal valley in central India. Filled with deep emotions and fateful twists, Paan Singh Tomar is a gritty, no holds barred action adventure set in the heart of India’s gangland, Chambal.

We struggled really hard to figure out what to write on this D-day, how to write a new post on the legend, and write something that has not been written or said before.  Or something that his fans haven’t seen before. Naah, everything has been discussed and dissected million times in trillion ways. 116 (chaand ki raatei) has turned into a magical number too, with everyone having their own theory about it.  From Bandini to Beera, Kinara to Kaminey, Dil Se to Dil toh baccha hai ji, he never fails to surprise. Will there ever be any Gulzar ? Well, we all know the answer.

Click on the play button to see if the video surprises you…if you have seen Gulzarsaab in this avatar before…

Got it ? If no, read on. The film is Jallianwala Bagh and was produced and directed by Balraj Tah. As the name suggests, its based on the historical Jallianwala Bagh incident. Gulzarsaab played an Indian student studying in England, and as a part of freedom movement, he delivered speeches in the campus. He played a friend to Parikshit Sahni, who was one of the main characters in the film. The music was by R D Burman.

As the story goes, most of the people were associated with this production because there were in good terms with the makers of the film. Hrishikesh Mukherjee was also involved with the film as a “friendly” director. In Gulzarsaab’s words..

Kyonki production mein bahut saari cast ki zaroorat thi, isliye jitne bhi log film mein backstage pe bhi involved the un sabko in front of camera khada kar diya..(except Pancham) aur sabse kaha ki ek ek role kar lo.. meine jo specific character kiya wo sirf isliye kiya ki film Thand ke dino mein shoot huyee thi.. aur film mein kewal mera character ki dress pullover (fully covered) mein thi :)… isliye wo character meine maang liya.”

And now its time to test your GQ – Gulzar Quotient. Guess the names of  the films in which he has made onscreen appearance.   Clueless like us ? Well, check out this song from Basu Bhattacharya’s Griha Pravesh starring Sanjeev Kumar, Sharmila Tagore, Sarika and Dinesh Thakur.

That Girl in Yellow Boots is a thriller tracing Ruth’s (Kalki Koechlin) search for her father – a man she hardly knew but cannot forget. Desperation drives her to work without a permit, at a massage parlour. Torn between several schisms, Mumbai becomes the alien but yet strangely familiar backdrop for Ruth’s quest. She struggles to find her independence and space even as she is sucked deeper into the labyrinthine politics of the city’s underbelly. A city that feeds on her misery, a love that eludes her and above all, a devastating truth that she must encounter. And everyone wants a piece of her.

When he speaks, we just listen. He is one of our all time favourite actor and the baap of acting – Naseeruddin Shah. And what a delight – unlike the rest of bollylalaland, he is honest and candid. And qualified too.

So, here it is…Naseeruddin Shah criticising Amitabh Bachchan’s choice of films (loving it! finally someone with whom we agree completely), on Sholay and talks about his role in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf. Click the play button. Now!

And there is more…now in sequence…Naseeruddin Shah on everything that’s cinema, with some priceless quotes on Farah Khan, Dev Anand, Mithun Chakraborty, Bollywood, Shammi Kapoor and Dara Singh!

The show is called ‘In Conversation’ and is  hosted by Saeed Naqvi on NewsX.

Thnx for the tip Rishabhpande .

UPDATE – The tvc is out too.

Wow..what a deadly combo! Get ready to see the plastic and the pristine. The actor and the mannequin! And that rhymes too! Aha Kate, Wah Kate!

The third one in the pic along with Kate Winslet and Aishwarya Rai is Taiwanese model Chi-ling Lin. The commercial is being shot in Rome and its for Longines Watches DolceVita collection. The buzz in the blogosphere is that its based on the film La Dolce Vita. Hum dekhenge!

It was D-day yesterday. Not sure what adjective should we use for the man called Guru Dutt. Asked the magician we know, to look into his treasure box and gift us something. So, here it is. ..Kitna rangeen hai ye chaand sitaaron ka samaa….Guru Dutt and Sadhna in an unreleased film called Picnic. It was shelved due to Gurudutt’s death.

BTW, our magician’s name is Pavan Jha and you can follow him on twitter here.

The theatrical trailer of Pradeep Sarkar’s new film Lafangey Parindey is out. It stars Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone. Produced by Aditya Chopra (Yashraj Films), its written by Gopi Puthran, has music by R Anandh (the limca jingle is also by him) and lyrics by Swanand Kirkire.

He was born to fight…she was born to fly….where are we heading, Dada ? They will fly & fight together!  Deepika delivering tapori dialogues sounds incredibly funny! A Bambaiyya blind babe ??!! And somehow, it doesn’t feel, look or sound like a Pradeep Sarkar film. May be he is trying to do something new. Anyway, Check it out.

The first trailer of Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan is out. And its pitch perfect. The trailer exactly tells what the movie is all about.

And now the problem! Why is the text in the trailer straight lift from one of our favourite trailers of last year – Where The Wild Things Are! If you dont believe us, just play the video. Inside all of us is HOPE. Inside all of us is Fear. Even the way it comes on screen, is the same. After Cannes, we had to see this ? Can any soul enlighten us ? Who cut this trailer ? Someone surely is Un-certain of few things! Beware!

For our review of Udaan, poster, pics, synopsis and all the jazz from Cannes, click on this post and follow the links given in the post.
