You can trust him to do anything! Ram Gopal Varma or Ramu, he swings better than any pendulam ever made on this earth. From one extreme to other. How ? Nobody knows the answer and we dont think we will ever find an answer. A new promotional music video of Agyaat is out and Ramu has posted it on his blog. Its called the jungle song. We think its the ROFL video of the season. We have put the video here, check it out.

Luck & Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hain’s test screening report

LuckOne was “tremendous” and the other “stupendous”.

Test screenings are not common in bollywood. We are all about hiding, too scared, if its bad, then ? Things are slowly changing, better safe than sorry.

But can someone tell the makers of both the films, Luck & Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hain, that test screenings are done to gauge audiences reaction and not for press release or create buzz or any kind of publicity. Its to make the film better and not the film’s publicity better. Also, we wonder what can one/two screenings reveal when the target audience is huge and so diverse.

Luck is produced by Ashtavinayak Films, directed by Soham Shah and stars Imran Khan, Shruti Hassan, Mithun Chakraborty and Danny Dangzongpa. According to this report, the test screening report was “tremendous”. Click here to read our post on the script of Luck. May be we are not the correct target audience for Luck!

Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is proudced by Nikhil Advani/Mukesh Talreja/Warner Brothers and its the directorial debut of writer Milap Jhaveri (Hey Baby, Naksha, Pyare Mohan, Home Delivery, Lucky, Musafir, Masti, Kaante) and stars Ritesh Deshmukh,  Jacqueline Fernandes & Ruslaan Mumtaz. According to Milap, the reponse was “fantastic” and “stupendous”.

Reliance-Spielberg BIG deal – all the details

Anil AmbaniAnil Ambani is all set to make all his hollywood debut.  He met with DreamWorks Studios partners Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider on wednesday and announced one of the biggest deals in recent times. We have simplified all the details for easy read.

– The new motion picture company formed between Reliance BIG Entertainment and DreamWorks has been functioning since November 2008 from DreamWorks’ office in Los Angeles, California.

Steven Spielberg– There will be an initial investment of $825 million, available for film production. $325 million would be Reliance’s contribution, $150 million from Disney and the rest would be from banks and financial institutions.

 – DreamWorks will eventually make 5-6 films per year with the funding.

–  The Walt Disney Company will handle marketing and distribution of the films around the world, except for India where Reliance BIG Entertainment will have the distribution rights.

 – DreamWorks will start the first film for the new studio later this year.

In India, Big Pictures has not been able to produce a single decent film so far. With deep pockets, they are willing to put money wherever they can spot a star. On their own, they havent developed any film/script/property. Few months back, they shut down their writing department as well and fired all the wrirters. A classic case of Big is NOT always better.

Rakhi Sawant to stay single even after the swayamvar!

Rakhi SawantLike us, if you are quite  vella and scratching your head wondering WTF is going to happen to Rakhi Sawant after the show Rakhi Ka Swayamvar, we got some fresh goss.

According to Buzz18’s Juicy Mausi, Rakhi Sawant will remain single even after the Swayamvar. It seems there is no clause in the contract which states that she HAS to marry someone at the end of the show.

Rakhi Ka Swayamvar is getting quite lot of balls, oops, eyeballs for obvious reasons and generating good buzz. Also, because of the show, NDTV Imagine has moved from No. 5 potition to No.4, replacing Sony.

In the finale, the contestants will be asked to choose between a large sum of money and Rakhi Sawant. And when they do, Rakhi will throw a fit and walk away! ROFL! Marega…jiyega….shaadi karega….TRP ke liye kuch bhi karega!

Bollywoodpopat also reports the same. According to the report, some astro-numerologist Sandhiya Mehta (kaun hai yeh ?), the show is all fake, only good publicty for Rakhi Sawant and great TRP idea for NDTV Imagine.

Wooohoo…we never Imgine-d that we will write so much about Rakhi Sawant!

Akshay Kumar’s new film – Thank You

Akshay KumarAccording to the news buzz, Akshay Kumar has signed a new film with UTV Motion Pictures. The film will be directed by Anees Bazmee and is titled Thank You.  It seems Akshay has been a fat paycheck even during these recession times. The big question is will Akshay Kumar score a hattrick with Anees Bazmee after Welcome & Singh Is King ?

Thank You is a comic caper and Neil Nitin Mukesh will also star in it. The leading ladies are yet to be finalised.

BTW, we think Akshay Kumar (AK)  should change his name to PAK – Punju Akshay Kumar.  Because in almost every other film he is playing the same good ol’ Punju and doing similar stuff.

NFDC’s ScriptLab List is out & One of us is in!

filmwritingWe posted about the NFDC’s Screenwriting Lab at Locarno Film Festival in association with Binger Filmlab here. The result is finally out. NFDC has selected six writers/script for the Script Lab. And here is the good news – one of us is in. Here is the complete list of those who are going to participate in the lab.

1. Aparna Pednekar – Mumbai based journalist ( Verve/Vogue/GQ India) . Script – F20.

2. Pratim Das Gupta – Calcutta based journalist ( The Telegraph). Script – Vanish.

3. Siddharth Singh – Mumbai based writer-director ( TVC’s/docus/music videos ). Script – Synchronicity.

4. Somen Mishra – Mumbai based journalist ( CNN IBN) . Script – The Prompter’s Son.

5. Priya Krishnaswamy – Pune based editor (features/docus. FTII grad). 

6.  Vinod Shankar – Chennai based actor-writer-director. Script – Adigaram 79 . 

Hopefully we will be able to blog about all the screenwriting tips from the script lab at Locarno Film festival (8th -12th August) and then the pitching session ( 24th-26th November) in Goa. If interested, keep reading and wish us luck!

Sameera ReddyTimes are changing and surely for good. According to this report in Hindustan Times, Sameera Reddy is all ready to quit bollywood. Reason – She is not getting any good offers! Is that any news ? She should have packed up long back. We hope she quickly packs her bags now before someone approaches her and makes us suffer one time. Enough of Reddy’s T & A.

NDTV India – which moron decides Mumbai Central’s content ?

NDTV IndiaBecause he/she surely doesn’t understand any shit about entertainment news. Saw the Monday bulletin (13th July- 23:00) of Mumbai Central on NDTV India. The central theme – We copy reality show formats like we plagiarise hollywood films. Its the same story on big and small screen. Dude, its not! One is with proper license and the other is just copy-paste.

The big mistake – 90% reality shows on Indian television are NOT plagiarised. The format is owned by some foreign production house and its shot here with proper license. Its NOT copy-paste job as the scene is with our films and as NDTV India made it to be. Someone needs to tell this to the editor of Mumbai Central. Because the anchor Mayuri Dongre repeated the same lines some two hundred times in just 15 minutes. Yeh bhi churaya hua hai…isme bhi desi tadka laga hai bus…..hamara show kab aayega….kab hamara sar uncha hoga ?

 Can someone explain it to me what and how is the logic of having sar ooncha ? These reality shows are popular in many countries across the world and its the same process everywhere. Someone designs the show, owns it, gives license to other parties and makes money. From Kaun Banega Crorepati ( Who wants to be millionaire) to Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao ( I’m a Celebrity…Get me out of here), every show is done after paying the license fees. Many times even the production house which owns the rights to the show are also involved in producing the show in other countries. So whatever NDTV India showed today at 23:00 pm on Mumbai Central, it was factually all wrong.

When it comes to entertainment news, they suck big time. The other day, a voiceover said Anurag Basu is the director of Black Friday! Anurag Basu ??!! Can’t they make out the difference between Anurag Basu and Anurag Kashyap ? And how it gets passed ? One person writes it, someone checks it, third person does the voiceover and finally a fourth one approves it. How come no one notices it ? Huh!

Hope the moron of Mumbai Central is listening! Otherwise, at this rate, NDTV India will soon become INDIA TV. 

Will Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao bachao Sony ?

Sony TvIn the GEC segment, if there is one channel whose performance have been consistent, its Sony TV.  It makes space for every new channel and moves one position down. Nobody bothers, no heads roll and it has been going on like this since last few years.

In the last few weeks, Sony has moved to No. 5 position. Courtesy Rakhi Sawant. 1st-2nd is shared between Colors and Zee Tv. Star Plus is at no. 3, NDTV Imagine has move to No. 4 and Sony is at No. 5. For more numbers, click here.

Recently Sony revamped its programming with shows like Bhaskar Bharti, Ladies Special, Palampur Express and Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega but the result was the same. Tonite it launches the reality show Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao, the desi version of I’m  a Celebrity…Get me out of Here!

But the big question is…Will it save Sony ? We will get to know tonite. The promos of the show make it look like a fake jungle with tacky production. Its easy to guess that they have shot the promos here. Hopefully the show will look much better.

The format is simple. Survivor meets The Big Boss. 10 celebrities. Malaysia’s Taman Negara National Park. 2 months of adventure. Whoever survives, wins it.

The 10 contestants are Shweta Tiwari (actress), Marc Robinson (model), Aman Verma (actor. host), Akashdeep Sehgal (actor), Anaida (singer), Chetan Hansraj (actor), Ishq Bector (singer), Mona Vasu (actress), Palak (roadies finalist) and Fiza Mohammed (headline hunter. courtesy Chand – A love story). Mini Mathur and Yudi will host the show.

The show goes on air tonite at 22:00 pm.  And every monday to thursday. On fridays, at 9pm. Here is the promo of the show

Ram Gopal Varma’s acting debut in Mujhe Ramuji Se Milna Hai

The film Mujhe Ramuji Se Milna Hai is directed by Adeep Singh and its all about the struggle in the film industry. Casting couch, exploitation ouch and much more. And since the title has Ramu, the maker of the film wanted him to do a cameo and Ramu happily obliged.

The film is about an actor (Proshant Naryannan) from Delhi’s National School Of Drama (NSD) who wants to meet Ramu for a break in Bollywood.

Ram Gopal Varma gave homage to Madhuri Dixit through the film Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon and now someone is doing the same to him. Though he tried to do the same once by naming his Sholay remake as Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag  and the world knows what happened to it.  Hopefully “Ramu” in the title would not bring any more bad luck!
