TGIF! Too much of news flow today. Some bolly quickies!
1. After almost two decades, Nana Patekar will soon return to direction to direct his son Malhar. The film will be produced by Prakash Jha.
2. Bit late but better to keep track. Agyaat is in High Court! Writer Sajit Warrier filed a complaint with Film Writers Association that Agyaat is his script. He was writing it for Ramu long back. And after few years, he suddenly got to know that the film is ready. FWA told Ramu to pay him 9 Lakhs. Ramu has moved to High Court. A unit member from Agyaat confirmed the fact that Sajit was writing for Ramu, not sure if its the same script. Will put a detail post soon.
3. Irfan Khan walks out of Sanjay Gupta’s Alibaug. First it was Sanjay Dutt and now Irfan Khan. Problem ? Payment issues. Thats Guptaji’s old habit. Irfan doesnt want to work with Guptaji till his Acid Factory (P – Gupta, D – Suparn Varma) payment is cleared. Or is this some PR at work for Acid Factory ?
4. Saif Ali is putting 28 ACs in his new home at Bandra. WTF ! And for what ? To have ice cubes and snow flakes in the potty! He has also taken up the terrace of the building and is turning it into a gym with all the facilities. May be its for the gym!
5. Heard of a film called Kissan ? No ? Its obvious. Has Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Jackie Shroff in the lead. Manoj Kumar has given permission to the makers of the film to use the song mere desh ki dharti in Kisaan.
6. Yashraj Films has denied the news that they have signed Salman Khan for an upcoming film.
7. Delhi Belly is social comedy and NOT sex comedy. NO desi American Pie – Abhinay Deo ( director of Delhi Belly. P – Aamir Khan)
8. Post Dev D, music composer Amit Trivedi’s hands and pockets are full with offers. He is doing Udaan ( D – Vikramaditya Motwane. P – Anurag Kashyap), Chillar Party ( P – UTV. D -Vikas Bahl’s debut), Film City ( P- UTV. D -Deven Khote’s debut ). Also the background score of Wake Up Sid (P – Karan Johar. D – Ayaan Mukherjee) and some more!
9. Shah Rukh Khan is in London, with his family for holidays. Karan Johar is also there. And he is busy shopping with Ritesh Deshmukh! Hmmmm. Looks like Ritesh will finally get a role in Dostana 2.
10. Ayesha Takia’s sister Natasha Takia is all set for her bollywood debut soon. And Mukul Deora ( Politician Milind Deora’s brother) is getting into film production. Is Bhabiji Pooja Shetty behind the filmy inspiration ?
PS. D is for Director and P is Producer.
You can trust him to do anything! Ram Gopal Varma or Ramu, he swings better than any pendulam ever made on this earth. From one extreme to other. How ? Nobody knows the answer and we dont think we will ever find an answer. A new promotional music video of Agyaat is out and Ramu has posted it on his blog. Its called the jungle song. We think its the ROFL video of the season. We have put the video here, check it out.
Dear Ramu,
Enough of school girls in skimpy clothes! How much of desperately-trying-hard-to-be oriental porn can we handle ? Huh. Bored.
FC
And talking of Jungle, remember that killer song from Ramu’s another Jungle…patli kamar…teerchi nazar….jaane de na julmi mere pyaar udhar hai. Impossible to believe that its the same Ramu! Now check out this video.
Believe it or not but its reported in today’s DNA. You can read the full article here.
The film Mujhe Ramuji Se Milna Hai is directed by Adeep Singh and its all about the struggle in the film industry. Casting couch, exploitation ouch and much more. And since the title has Ramu, the maker of the film wanted him to do a cameo and Ramu happily obliged.
The film is about an actor (Proshant Naryannan) from Delhi’s National School Of Drama (NSD) who wants to meet Ramu for a break in Bollywood.
Ram Gopal Varma gave homage to Madhuri Dixit through the film Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon and now someone is doing the same to him. Though he tried to do the same once by naming his Sholay remake as Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag and the world knows what happened to it. Hopefully “Ramu” in the title would not bring any more bad luck!
Is today something special ? Something to do with feeling nostalgic! First, the post on Hum Log @25 and now this one. On his new blog post, Ram Gopal Varma has put up four on location pics from his film Shiva. Take a look. And to quote Ramu, before you check out the pics…
If you promise not to laugh I am posting here some location pictures from “Shiva” which my mother dug up from an old closet.
And now check out his current avtaar. The look, the style, the attitude, the pose, ah..the dude! Gained a lot, and lost some cinema sense in exchange ? The maverick surprises us always, from one extreme to other.

As promised in our last post on Agyaat Contest, we are back with all the details about the contest. Ramu’s new film Agyaat is ready for release and to promote the film, he is doing this unique contest. Basically you have to shoot a short and scare, surprise or shock Ramu, and if you manage to do so, you can get a break. Read on. This is from Ramu’s facebook post.
Well if you see the location and concept of Agyaat. Why I wanted to make Agyaat is because I was always fascinated with making thrillers, that’s because I think thrillers give you the opportunity to use the medium more effectively than any other genre. Like using background score, to sound, to camera movements, to editing patterns… you can experiment alot.
And it’s watching thrillers all the time when I was a teenager that I really learnt whatever craft I’ve of film making. And I never believe that one needs to be an assistant director or go to an institute to understand the craft. I believe you must have a passion to tell a story , you need to have a clarity to explain to the actors and the concerned technicians about what is it exactly you want in a given shot.
Also, at the point when I became a director two years back there were no film tools available to anyone. So, it forced people to either become assistant directors or join an institute. but today that is not the case, any one with a digi-cam and laptop can make a film. Technology has given so much of freedom.
So in context to that, I just have this idea. Like I had an opportunity and I got a break and I could make a film. And I’m sure without any training and any access to the film industry plenty of you guys will arrive better than me but don’t have an access to the film industry.
WHAT : Agyaat Contest.
DURATION : If you can make a film in duration of may be probably between 10 seconds to 2mins or whatever. A SHORT FILM! And you send it for the Agyaat Short Film contest.
PRIZE : And whichever film is selected the best by us, me ( Ramu ) and UTV that is. Both me and UTV will make a short film, produce a short film and you will be the director of the movie.
So this is a great opportunity especially if you are interested in the genre. Again I want to stress that it is thriller genre that you can really catch because you don’t really need a story. You don’t need a beggining and an end. You can just attempt to create a moment out of nothing. Just in a shot.
It could intrigue you, it could scare you or surprise you or shock you…. What ever the emotion… It has to create one emotion and after that it is YOUR FILM!
All you have to do is enter the AGYAAT SHORT FILM contest!
WHERE : Upload it on the internet and send the link to agyaatshortfilms@utvnet.com Or Post it on a cd/dvd addressed to Aasif Ahmed, UTV Motion Pictures, 1181-82, Solitare Corporate , Guru Hargovindji Marg, Chakala, Andheir E, Mumbai – 400 093
LAST DATE : No details so far. We will try to get it and post it here. Updated : You have to submit the short film before 17th July 2009, the day Agyaat releases. We have been informed in the comments section ( by some soul called RGV, real or fake ?, who cares! the date is more important) as well as by others about the date. Update 16/06 – We got to know today that the last date is 10th July, 2009.
So get your cameras rolling soon! All the best.
Though numerology sounds a big joke to us but if given a chance, we would like to change RGV’s name. From Ram Gopal Varma to Ram Gimmick Varma. Because the man is always upto some gimmick. And here is the new one.
His last gimmick for Phoonk worked out well, giving him the much needed hit. Though many questions regarding the Phoonk contest were left unanswered. It was the same with Darna Zaroori Hai contest.
This time its about Agyaat. Before he scares you, he is asking you to scare him. Its a contest to promote the film. You can shoot a short film and upload it on Agyaat’s website. If it manages to shock or scare him, you will get a chance to make a horror film for UTV and Ramu.
Its just an announcement so far. We are waiting for the exact details. How, when, where, dates….will post it soon. But knowing his past record, we will trust the “Agyaat” but not RGV!
In case you missed it, Buzz18.com has got the theatrical trailer of Ramu’s Agyaat. Enjoy!
Vodpod videos no longer available.

Ramu has started blogging about his new film Agyaat on facebook. The film is released by UTV. You can check out the link here or scroll down to read the story/synopsis of Agyaat.
The story is about how a film unit on a shoot, in a far away land in a certain situation gets trapped deep in a forest and one by one the members start getting killed.
It is an unknown entity which starts killing them one by one and this is really the premise of the film. The real exciting part is the human drama of how people shed their inhibitions, egos and forget hierarchies when faced with death. It’s about the emotional complexities that extreme fear unleashes in people.
I always believed that a location should be treated like a character. I have personally seen quite a few jungles in India and also in Thailand, Indonesia and Brazil. But when I set my eyes on the Sigiriya jungle in Sri Lanka, it took my breath away with its sheer character. One might say a jungle is a jungle but then you have not seen the Sigiriya forest. It’s both enchanting and terrifying at the same time. Every tree of it looks like it’s hiding something beneath it, which is just waiting to pounce on you. That jungle alone is worth making this film.
For the subject matter of “Agyaat” which is about a set of people trapped in a certain situation in a jungle and something in there, killing them one after one I couldn’t even have dreamed of finding a location anywhere as effective as Sigiriya, especially since I have no intention of showing the entity which is creating the terror and killing them all. It is imperative that the look of the jungle substitutes for that lack so the jungle creates the trap. The entity which is killing them one by one creates the deadline and these two together create a race to nowhere as the group just does not know where to run, where to hide and whom or what to kill.
And now the SPOILER ALERT!
The killer in the film is nothing but a man eating p-y-t-h-o-n! And according to gossipmongers Ramu got the idea of making Agyaat after he saw Cloverfield.
The man knows it all. But you cant win all the games. His recent film Rann is on the politics of newsroom, the battle for eyeballs. And so, we thought that atleast Ramu would understand the way news channels work. They are not run by shitheads as he and his publicity smartasses might be thinking. Why ? Read on.
With the distorted version of Jann Gana Mann as Jana Gana Rann, Ramu and his coterie must have thought that they have cracked the next big idea for the publicity of the film. So even before the song got censor certificate, it was smartly handed over to the news channels to play, expecting the right buzz to happen. And thats how its available all over the net. When the intention is not so cool, the coolest idea also falls flat. Thats exactly what happened. With the IPL and election fever on, nobody bothered much about the jana gana rann song. No play, no eyeball, no buzz.
Next, as expected Censor Board didnt allow the song. Ramu was more than happy with the news. It was moving in the direction as it was planned. Rann’s publicity managers tried to convince the news editors to debate, dicuss and dissect the issue. Blame it on Varun and Rahul baba’s high election drama and fakeiplplayer’s entertaining posts…those were much more interesting. Deadend again.
Next, Ramu approached the court to get the song cleared. And as expected the Supreme Court slammed Ramu for distorting the national song. Here is more.
We always thought this was one dude who would never pretend to be holier-than-thou and try to show us the mirror because he always said that he looks dirty when he watches himself in the mirror. We expected Ramu to be the last man to give us gyaan on the state of the nation and blah blah. But then, for publicity people do strange things.
So What does Mr Amitabh Bachchan thinks about this publicity gimmick ? The man who is always ready to butcher the media. Or he has no clue.
And here goes our love letter to the man whom we love to hate or hate to love…
Dear Ramu,
After your horrible attempts like Sarkar Raj, Contract and Phoonk, we are not sure about others but we will be there. Because we still think that you are the original inglorious bastard, one who can talk about the love for RIFLE so openly and without any guilt. Only few dare to do so. This is the real you or atleast thats your image. You are not jana gana rann. Dont give us lecture. And please dont pretend. Bollywood is anyway guided by too heavy morals. We dont want one more conscious citizen.
If for nothing else, we will watch Rann for the honest man who tried to fake it with Jann Gana Rann.
