Pakhi & Abbas TyrewalaHis debut feature Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na went on to become big hit. We thought it was strictly ok, serving the bollywood’s oldest  cliche ek ladka aur ladki dost nahi ho sakte hai kya! But then, when you cater to U-25 with popcorn and cola flick, High School Whimsical is also superhit.

Abbas Tyrewala was well known writer before he turned to direction. Ashoka (D), Maqbool, Chupke Se, Munnabhai MBBS (D), Main Hoon Na (S&D), Salaam Namaste (D), Shikhar and De Taali. And now he is busy directing 1-800-Love, written by his wife Pakhi who also stars in it, opposite John Abraham. If the gossipmongers at Producer Madhu Mantena’s office are to believed, Tyrewala has been paid Rs 5 crore as direction fees for the film! woohoo!

Post JTYJN, Tyrewala is flying quite high. If you thought Farah and her brother Sajid Khan are loudmouths, you need to attend a session of Tyrewala Talks! Gyaan-guru, who has solutions for everything. And now to help Tyrewala, Pakhi’s full family is involved in the making of the film. Her mother, who is a drama teacher, is coaching John Abraham for getting the dialogues right. Knowing Abraham’s acting talent, we surely reccomend few more teachers. Also, Pakhi’s brother has come onboard. Not sure, in which capacity.

Producer Mantena ia making sure that every demand of the director, his dear biwi and his biwi‘s family is met!

PS – We are yet to confirm this. Have heard that 1-800-Love is not Pakhi’s big screen debut. She was in Hansal Mehta’s film Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai. If anyone can confirm it, as we haven’t seen the film.

TGIF! Too much of news flow today. Some bolly quickies!

1. After almost two decades, Nana Patekar will soon return to direction to direct his son Malhar. The film will be produced by Prakash Jha.

2. Bit late but better to keep track. Agyaat is in High Court! Writer Sajit Warrier filed a complaint with Film Writers Association that Agyaat is his script. He was writing it for Ramu long back. And after few years, he suddenly got to know that the film is ready. FWA told Ramu to pay him 9 Lakhs. Ramu has moved to High Court. A unit member from Agyaat confirmed the fact that Sajit was writing for Ramu, not sure if its the same script. Will put a detail post soon.

3. Irfan Khan walks out of Sanjay Gupta’s Alibaug. First it was Sanjay Dutt and now Irfan Khan. Problem ? Payment issues. Thats Guptaji’s old habit. Irfan doesnt want to work with Guptaji till his Acid Factory (P – Gupta, D – Suparn Varma) payment is cleared. Or is this some PR at work for Acid Factory  ?

4. Saif Ali is putting 28 ACs in his new home at Bandra. WTF ! And for what ? To have ice cubes and snow flakes in the potty! He has also taken up the terrace of the building and is turning it into a gym with all the facilities. May be its for the gym!

5. Heard of a film called Kissan ? No ? Its obvious. Has Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Jackie Shroff in the lead. Manoj Kumar has given permission to the makers of the film to use the song mere desh ki dharti in Kisaan.

6. Yashraj Films has denied the news that they have signed Salman Khan for an upcoming film.

7.  Delhi Belly is social comedy and NOT sex comedy. NO desi American Pie – Abhinay Deo ( director of Delhi Belly. P – Aamir Khan)

8. Post Dev D, music composer Amit Trivedi’s hands and pockets are full with offers. He is doing Udaan ( D – Vikramaditya Motwane. P – Anurag Kashyap), Chillar Party ( P – UTV. D -Vikas Bahl’s debut), Film City ( P- UTV. D -Deven Khote’s debut ). Also the background score of Wake Up Sid (P – Karan Johar. D – Ayaan Mukherjee) and some more!

9. Shah Rukh Khan is in London, with his family for holidays. Karan Johar is also there. And he is busy shopping with Ritesh Deshmukh! Hmmmm. Looks like Ritesh will finally get a role in Dostana 2.

10. Ayesha Takia’s sister Natasha Takia is all set for her bollywood debut soon.  And Mukul Deora ( Politician Milind Deora’s brother)  is getting into film production. Is Bhabiji Pooja Shetty behind the filmy inspiration ?

PS. D is for Director and P is Producer.

You can trust him to do anything! Ram Gopal Varma or Ramu, he swings better than any pendulam ever made on this earth. From one extreme to other. How ? Nobody knows the answer and we dont think we will ever find an answer. A new promotional music video of Agyaat is out and Ramu has posted it on his blog. Its called the jungle song. We think its the ROFL video of the season. We have put the video here, check it out.

Dear Ramu,

Enough of school girls in skimpy clothes! How much of desperately-trying-hard-to-be oriental porn can we handle ? Huh. Bored.

FC

And talking of Jungle, remember that killer song from Ramu’s another Jungle…patli kamar…teerchi nazar….jaane de na julmi mere pyaar udhar hai. Impossible to believe that its the same Ramu! Now check out this video.

LuckOne was “tremendous” and the other “stupendous”.

Test screenings are not common in bollywood. We are all about hiding, too scared, if its bad, then ? Things are slowly changing, better safe than sorry.

But can someone tell the makers of both the films, Luck & Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hain, that test screenings are done to gauge audiences reaction and not for press release or create buzz or any kind of publicity. Its to make the film better and not the film’s publicity better. Also, we wonder what can one/two screenings reveal when the target audience is huge and so diverse.

Luck is produced by Ashtavinayak Films, directed by Soham Shah and stars Imran Khan, Shruti Hassan, Mithun Chakraborty and Danny Dangzongpa. According to this report, the test screening report was “tremendous”. Click here to read our post on the script of Luck. May be we are not the correct target audience for Luck!

Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is proudced by Nikhil Advani/Mukesh Talreja/Warner Brothers and its the directorial debut of writer Milap Jhaveri (Hey Baby, Naksha, Pyare Mohan, Home Delivery, Lucky, Musafir, Masti, Kaante) and stars Ritesh Deshmukh,  Jacqueline Fernandes & Ruslaan Mumtaz. According to Milap, the reponse was “fantastic” and “stupendous”.

With “tremendous” and “stupendous” reports, hope we will get to see two good films soon. You can read the Indiafm and Mumbai Mirror news reports here & here. Btw, if Nikhil Advani is really giving out his script of Patiala House to readers to get feedback as mentioned in this report, someone please do mail it to us moifightclub@gmail.com . We will make sure that he gets the most honest feedback!

Anil AmbaniAnil Ambani is all set to make all his hollywood debut.  He met with DreamWorks Studios partners Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider on wednesday and announced one of the biggest deals in recent times. We have simplified all the details for easy read.

– The new motion picture company formed between Reliance BIG Entertainment and DreamWorks has been functioning since November 2008 from DreamWorks’ office in Los Angeles, California.

Steven Spielberg– There will be an initial investment of $825 million, available for film production. $325 million would be Reliance’s contribution, $150 million from Disney and the rest would be from banks and financial institutions.

 – DreamWorks will eventually make 5-6 films per year with the funding.

–  The Walt Disney Company will handle marketing and distribution of the films around the world, except for India where Reliance BIG Entertainment will have the distribution rights.

 – DreamWorks will start the first film for the new studio later this year.

In India, Big Pictures has not been able to produce a single decent film so far. With deep pockets, they are willing to put money wherever they can spot a star. On their own, they havent developed any film/script/property. Few months back, they shut down their writing department as well and fired all the wrirters. A classic case of Big is NOT always better.

Copy of aladin amitabh new-1…he rambles on and on and on. Signs of being senile ?

Those of you who follow Buddha B, oops, Big B’s blog, you know what we are talking and those who don’t, read on. Mid-day, the Mumbai based tabloid is known for giving finger-fucks to celebrities and they make sure that they give their best. And their latest love is Amitabh Bachchan.

Recently Mid-day’s Tushar Joshi did a story on Amitabh Bachchan, how he doesnt practice what he preaches. He supports going green but drive in SUVs, the gas guzzlers. You can read the full story here. Phir kya tha ?

The finger-fuck did the trick, Bachchan went on a rampage on his blog and came up with the lamest reply through a blogpost. He attacked the reporter (Tushar Joshi), Entertainment Editor of the tabloid (Sarita Tanwar) and rambled non-stop without making any sense. And even took digs at Karan Johar. Here are some gems from his post…

I am aware that my acumen in keeping the press happy and co operative is abysmal. I am not generous enough in entertaining them to either media jaunts to out of town activities, especially those in foreign lands, and neither do I have the required savvy to invite them to social gatherings and parties like a Karan Johar does for his birthday to Sarita Tanwar and others of her ilk.

And his biggest lie…

If media needs to be nurtured for personal gain I would imagine it would destroy their very tenets of unbiased reporting, would it not. In keeping with that sentiment, if I have desisted, is there some error being committed on my part ?

(Can someone ask him about the pest called Subhash K Jha ? The whole world knows that Jhaji is Bachchanophile. Jhaji is the point person for Bachchan family to plant their news pieces and so he gets every exclusive news about Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In return, he just has to keep on sucking upto the Bachchan family. )

BUT… dearest Sarita Tanwar of Karan Johar party invite… I have a suggestion to make. When the removal of my one such SUV will save the world from hundreds of years of existence, would it not be worth its while to extend the life of our planet even further. I mean think of your grand children to the power of infinity pushing yellow pencils for Mid Day in cyberland !! Thats an exciting proposition is it not ? Or would you rather let good ol’ smsed Tushar do the noble deed ?

And.. I say… tell this chap Tushar to stop using his mobile. Have you any idea what the radio activity each call and sms sent, creates for the environment ?It all adds up deary !! Lets start at home first, no ? So this is fixed then.. no mobile phones ok ? When you need to communicate, just walk across to AB’s house and ask him the question. What is a couple of kilometers ? Nothing ! Will help burn the calories, keep you fit.

This Maharashtra Police, I tell you, they are second to only the Scotland Yard of Britain. Right now they are smarting because of 26/11. You need to treat them with care. All of them use the Bolero SUV and the Qualis SUV. You mess with them baby, they run you over with them SUV over your chest. Think of your walking journalistic future Tushaaar !! They do not make guys like you any more !!

And some more…

No plane , no Union. Simple no ? Stop King Fisher, go meet Vijay Mallya at his pad in Goa. In Goa eh.. remember Goa ! I tell you why. The beach in front of his gorgeous palace is being eaten up with the sea coming in… because of what, Tushar, Sarita… whoever is listenning… global warming !! Go stop Jet Airways ! They are retrenching heavily. They will love you for this.

Sarita and Tushar… get rid of your mobile, your electricity, your air travel, your cars, your news paper, push yourself back to prehistoric times and show me the way to progress so that we are not referred to as a developing nation a nation that is referred to insultingly as the third world. We want to compete with the world, to bring our standards up.

Finally….

STOP PRINTING MID DAY  MATES IN YOUR PAGES….!!!

Sarita, I know that you have published today a rejoinder to your yesterday’s headline, where you have tried to nullify the damage done by your previous article. But remember always if you have the right to be the keepers of society so do I. If you have the right of cynicism, so do I. If you exercise the right to pull my leg I shall pull yours as well. And every time you shall abuse me wrongly I shall rightfully correct your abuse.

Mr Bachchan, what are you eating, drinking or smoking these days ? Mid-day will be Mid-day. Why get dirty with them ?

And if you still have some patience to read the full post, click here. Don’t say that we didn’t warn you. Never before a celeb blog been so boring and nonsensical.

Sameera ReddyTimes are changing and surely for good. According to this report in Hindustan Times, Sameera Reddy is all ready to quit bollywood. Reason – She is not getting any good offers! Is that any news ? She should have packed up long back. We hope she quickly packs her bags now before someone approaches her and makes us suffer one time. Enough of Reddy’s T & A.

BTW, we wonder if Sanjay Gupta is the reason. With no sugar daddies to help her out, what will Reddyji do. And if you havent read Guptaji’s quote on Reddyji, do click here.

Kambakkht IshqBecause the braindead entertainment journos just put out the press releases, whatever  is issued by the PR guys. Indiafm has been continously pumping figures as if there is no tomorrow. Most of the other newspapers/websites also doing the same. Copy-paste the press release. But there have been few reports which dimissed the 100 crore claims.

Check out this report in LiveMint. According to it, the figures are as follows

Release – 700 prints in India & 260 prints in the overseas market.

Cost – Rs 75 crore including print and publicity, entirely funded by Eros International.

Collections – First week closed at Rs 20 crore distributor share (India) and will touch Rs 25 crore across its entire run. Collections were affected due to a massive downfall in the film from Monday evening onwards.

Verdict : Kambakkht Ishq team popped the bubbly, the dampener this week was that Eros will suffer a loss of almost Rs 10-12 crore on this film.

Indiafm

Cost : Rs. 62 crore, including print and advertisement cost.

Collections :  This report on Indiafm.com is the same as the official press release. According to Trash Adarsh, the film has grossed Rs. 100 crore worldwide in its first week, making it one of the most successful openings in Indian cinema.

Rs. 70 crores in India (Rs. 42 crores nett) and Rs. 21 crores overseas business, with music & digital platforms grossing Rs. 10 crores.  ( Why would anyone count music & digital platform rights with the box office collections ? A clear indication of being desperate to add up the numbers and make it 100!)

The Times Of India

And now the figures according to today’s TOI (page 10. Could not find the online link. You can check the e-paper here and go to page 10, the header is For cine buffs, content is king )

Sold – At a price of Rs 80 crore

Collections – In the first week distribution share is Rs 30 crore, it is certainly difficult to recover the entire cost. Even if satellite rights are sold for Rs 10 crore and home video for Rs 2-3 crore, recovering costs is going to be a tall order – Trade analyst Amod Mehra.

BoxOfficeIndia.com

Collections : Kambakkht Ishq had an excellent first week of around Rs 36 crore nett. The film has done brilliant business in the North while collections in South India circuits like Mysore are on the lower side. The collections on the 8th day have shown a big fall of around 65-70%.

So, what to believe and what to chuck ? As someone wrote on a blogpost, Box office news and updates of Kambakkht Ishq is more eventful than the movie itself. Couldn’t agree more!

sankatcity2Like me, if you belong to the tribe who loved Sanjay Khanduri’s Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, but never went to the theatre and managed to catch it only on tv/dvd after someone reccomeded it strongly, and you still feel guilty about it, then here is a chance to redeem yourself. Get your tickets booked for this week’s release Sankat City, directed by Pankaj Advani. His first release.

And even if you don’t belong to the same tribe, dont miss Sankat City. Its quirky, funny & paisa vasool masala film that doesn’t ask you to enter the theatre without your brains. It tickles your brains and so, make sure you carry your brains alongwith your tickets.

I entered the theatre exactly two minutes late and so missed the national anthem. But if any film deserves to have national anthem as its theme song, then this is the one. Name it and you will have it. Characters from almost every region of the country…Punjabi, Bengali, Jat, Madrasi, Hyderbadi, Marathi. And the director is not biased for anyone. They all belong to the same tribe…insane with different eccentricities, who get stuck in bizaare situations and have one common problem – money.

Characters which are rare in hindi cinema…babas in bathtubs, baba-bhakts looking for dynamites, vegetarian hero and hero with hyderabadi duplicate. And yes, a meteor that changes luck…! ( Finally someone killed that Kuch Kuch Hota Hai meteor funda. Toote taare ko dekhkar tumne kya maanga ? Bus maa ki aankh maanga tha.

In Sankat City, the world is completely round, everyone bumps into other one, a merry-go-round and the all the dots finally gets connected to give that masala end. The first 20minutes or so looks jarring, the camera moves constantly as the characters are introduced one by one and the focus keeps on shifting. But once you settle in, its a roller coaster ride. Advani’s writing is smart and his direction doesn’t match upto his script. Or may be things can change if he gets the resources. Its easy to understand the problems of any director when you go to a producer with Kay Kay & Rimi Sen as lead actors.

Kay Kay has gone from one extreme to other. From the silent brooding type to the over the top kind. And at times, he is quite irritating. The film belongs to the ensemle cast…Anupam Kher, Manoj Pahwa, Yashpal Sharma, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Virendra Saxena and many others whose name I don’t know.

There is only one reason for not watching it – if you don’t know what andkosh means! And I have only one personal grudge…my favourite actress’ role had so lil to do, that doesn’t justify her potential in any way. I don’t even know her name but I love her. Check out this superb short film of Zee Cinema….Paap Ka Anth…she is the one…Dakurani Champabai!
